Very nice impressionist work. Like a lot !
Jerry Berry  Thank you Fernand.
Have a safe and prosperous New Year. I hope someday to meet the master face to face.
Fernand Hick  Jerry, I agree that a meeting should be fine, but we live so far one to another... Do you have an idea...?
Best wishes for 2012. Cheers, Fernand

Brilliant work Jerry, I love this style of image, because it can never be replicated, so, it is very precious.
Jerry Berry  Thank you Wayne. One either loves these or hates them. They have been an acquired taste for me. Certainly fun to do.

Apologies in advance Jerry, but for me it is a visual mess.
Nothing more, nothing less.

I even rhymed it for you...
Jerry Berry  Hi mark.
I don't mind at all. Thanks for taking the time to comment. And for being honest.
mark boyle  You are very gracious Jerry, it was not the best way to say what I wanted to say. Too many glasses of chardonnay last night I think.

I know motion blur is a bit of a specialty for you but when I saw this my immediate reaction was that it was a bit of a mess.

I still feel that way but I will attempt to be a bit more articulate.

The problem for me is the lack of anything binding the image together into a cohesive whole. Sure it is abstract and the way you have taken it is interesting but there is no real entry point, nothing to guide the viewer into and through the maze presented.

Jackson Pollock, the artist famous for his drip style of abstract painting was a master at this. He provided 'visual markers' such as recurring shapes and dominant splashes of color to guide the viewer through the painting. A classic example of this is his 'Blue Poles'.

Hope it makes some sense because I wrote this completely sober...

Jerry Berry  Thanks again Mark for a more in depth pointof view. My first impression is always the same as yours. At least it used to be. Now, I find that it takes a little more time looking at them to really decide if I like them. Consider it similar to aging a wine and letting it breath a bit before imbibing. I am still playing with these types of images and "think" I am getting closer to what it is I enjoy looking at. I can certainly see what you are talking about (mostly in the images that you will never see - meaning the throwaways that didn't work.) What I am noticing and trying to emphasize or capture are the tree trunks with the color around them. To shoor these scenes straight up (non blurred) is difficult for me because all I see is a bit of a mess only well defined. But that is the challenge too I know. So what I concentrated on was finding those prominent tree trunks and made the effort to keep their prominence in tact. I believe that is the anchor that you speak of. I may have not accomplished this as well in this image but I think I came close at least in my mind.
As I have stated before, these types of images are not well received by many photographers. And it has taken me a long time to make peace with them myself. Not too many photographers are doing them maybe for that reason. I try to mix them in with the straight stuff I shoot when I go out. So I have plenty of both and direct them to individual tastes. For me it is fun to experiment and open my mind to new things. And of course it is a way to seperate some of my shooting with the masses out there that have cameras.
I really do appreciate your candor and honesty in reviewing these images. It sounds like you do have some experience in this and have a good idea what works and what doesn't for you, and that helps me.
Take care.

Chaotic yet calming, wonderful photo Jerry, but next time try a faster shutter speed. ;)
Jerry Berry  Glad you like it Alex.
Faster shutter speed----No Impact :-))
These types of images REALLY are hard to get used to and accept. I think they are an acquired taste and usually take a bit of time appreciate fully.
Alex OBrien  Couldn't agree more Jerry, I've recently started taking blurry images, a lot more difficult than it first appears. :)

Good one, Jerry, being a blur fan :) is impossible to not love this image! Cool!
Jerry Berry  A pleasure to hear from you Codrin. Thanks for being a blur fan. And thanks for looking on my HP as frequently as you do. It would be nice if more looked in that direction I think. One can see more than just the images that were published.

JB
Codrin Lupei  You're very right Jerry, though I've felt that people have not so much time to take a look or to write some words...if they like or not...well, that's it...most of us want just to see our works published and to appreciate what gets published...Take care!
Jerry Berry  Thanks Codrin.
Who needs a LB anyway!?
JB
Codrin Lupei  I need it...anyway! :)))

I'm glad I thought of it on that last day.
Good to see you still lurking about.

Jerry Berry  Thanks Kevin. e hit it right on peak. Couldn't have been better.
I drove occasionally. This was the last ditch effort to shoot something nice.

A very nice blur..here. For a moment I thought it was the other Vaseline technique!:) I hope you had one hand on the wheel:). Bravo..Phyllis
Jerry Berry  Thanks Phyllis.
One hand is all that is needed right? The challenge was keeping an eye on the road :-)
My wife did the driving. Again.
This turned out to be a cool way to capture this color rich environment. (at least using blurs) It was quite fun and the more (longer) I looked at what I got, the more they grew on me.
