Balazs Pataki  The funny thing is, there's no composition. I didn't even notice this pic on my memory card. Taken totally by default. Lucky me. Thanks!

Beautiful image Balazs, I have missed your works very much. :)
Balazs Pataki  That's good to hear and I'm glad to see you survived my absence :)) I also missed my works, but so far this seems to be the only one that made it thru... Thanks Alex!
Alex OBrien  I'm experiencing the exact same thing. Balazs just a question, was this taken with flash?
Balazs Pataki  Yes. It was necessary for several reasons. First, the skin overthere is dark and it must be flashed to avoid underexposure. Second, the sun is strong and casts strong shadows around the eyes. Third, the glorious and hyped 5DMarkII needs the extra focusing help from the 580EX's AF assistance beam - in my experience, it focuses more accurately with the flash on. The fourth reason is that this in particular was a typical situation when a flash is necessary (dark alley at dusk).
Alex OBrien  Ah thanks Balazs, normally I am not a fan of using flash at all however it looks surprisingly good in this picture. I was shocked when I found out almost all studio portraiture involves flash. Well I've learnt something new, thanks a lot Balazs, and again, great photo.
Balazs Pataki  That's studio flash, something completely different than the mounted flash. For a long time I was also against using it, and because I didn't know how to use it I called what I was doing "available light photography" :)) ...for which I never owned the fast lenses needed. Anyway, now the flash is always mounted on my camera!

I like the way you compose the picture...and can you tell me the secret also...:))
Great picture Balazs.
Balazs Pataki  Her secret was her name, whch was Sopna, wich means something incredibly explicitly sexual in Hungarian so I tried to forget about that name ;)
Ricky Siegers  :)) great secret Balazs, I am gonna be in Budapest the first week of november. I hope I can get nice street pict there...:) any sugestion?
Balazs Pataki  It might sound a little macabre but on 2 November we have the day of the dead, and a visit to "Fiumei úti temetö" (the Hungarian equivalent of Arlington/Westminster Abbey/Pere Lachaise) could be worthwile. If weather will be good, the cemetary looks beautiful with the colored trees and graceful monuments, and you'll also have the chance to take some "special Hungarian" people shots that day. Otherwise, if you are good in martial arts or have a bodyguard, you can try to enter the Gypsy district (district VIII and parts of the IX), but be prepared for Bronx in the '70s conditions. This two districts have a special feeling which is disappearng now with the new building projects. You can try your luck in Ráday utca, which is frequented by many young people for its restaurants and cafés (if they will still be open in November), and the Nagykörút (the big ring road) in general. If you are into more hardcore socio-graphic stuff, you can also submerge to the metro stations at Nyugati pályaudvar and Blaha Lujza tér, which can be sometimes like a true human zoo. Good luck!
Ricky Siegers  Thank you for your usefull information. Offcourse I will becarefull...I know my limit :)) hope friends of mine will company to visit those place. I will let you know Balazs...Thank you again...:))
Nice, perfect DOF and composition :-)

Excellent story here..with your usual superb b/w work. Welcome Home! Phyllis
Balazs Pataki  It's not so superb, the secret is to pop up contrast another 10% when you think it's ready and perfect ;) Nah, Canon's L lenses can deliver great results IF they decide to focus on the spot where you want it... Thanks Phyllis!
