You can feel very strongly the atmoshere here - a living picture.
First I thought the location is somewhere in eastern Europe and was surprised that it is coming from RSA.

Grain is exelent.. They respect water much more than we do.. That's a fact.

Andre,

Congratulations on your "Water Man" picture - this looks so, so much like pushed high-iso film, with all the mood and "roughness" that it brings - befitting the story.

Interesting for me to see this here Andre, as only a week or so ago..there was a big story on the news (radio) about "the Water Man"...and how people buy their water from a person..I found the program interesting..and now seeing this picture it all comes together! :) Bravo..excellent capture as usual..and important to realize for those of us who have such easy access to water. My best, Phyllis
Andre du Plessis  That is really interesting Phyllis, and quite coincidental that this was aired only last week. Thanks for this, Andre
I scene with the great mood of old photo films. Good job Andre

Lovely Andre. The grain here was an excellent choice to accent the grit of difficult living conditions. Love the stark elements of the tree and the structures. Really masterful.
Andre du Plessis  You sing my song - thanks!

A wonderful image, Andre, really beautiful work you've done here! Great, love it! I was sure that the D700 is an almost noisefree camera...:))) Love the grain!
Andre du Plessis  And you thought that I created the noise!. No ways! When you travel south of the equator Nikon becomes Nokin, so all the superflous references to noise capability is reversed, and it changes into a Holga.
Codrin Lupei  :) Well, it seems that I really have to go there, I've always wanted a Holga, but being much too lazy to start now developing and printing by myself...this would be the solution, the digital Holga, the Nokin! Cool!

Powerful atmosphere! The title removes some of the mystery that makes this shot so intriguing.
Andre du Plessis  Thanks for that Martin - as you will see I removed the refernce below the title, however, I kept the top title.

Excellent composition. I like the grain here.
Brilliant

Andre du Plessis  To be honest I was a bit worried about that Al, but thought that the message of necessity trounced here, and that a more stark image will be more effective in translating that.
Hi Andre,

for me this fine picture lies on the boundary between art and journalism.

LandyMan
Andre du Plessis  I think that I know what you mean LandyMan. I feel such a fraud, for I live in London. I eat and enjoy London, and travel to European cities where I eat and dine and wine. Yet, every time I go home and subject myself to capture the people that I care about, and listen to and learn from, it moves me, and I gain new energy and a new determination, and I have the opportunity to share a bit of me with them. Then I return to show you and the others and tell you about them, and I am always so happy when I get to publish them. But before too long, I wine and dine again. Just to repeat the cycle.
So yes, I wish that I was a photojournalist. For although I help many people in medicine, I think that I could have done more through photography, and writing about that. Never to late to change, but right now it will be impossible for me. I appreciate your comment.

very 'rural' and conveys the message well Andre!
Andre du Plessis  Thanks Morkel. This cottage is about 3km CT side of Plett, and was one of my 1st prints. Used to stand at the roadside and picture this from about 200m away. So did everyone that I know. Still there, but the horison is slowly being swallowed up by the sprawling KwaNokuthula. So many years later, this time in the digital age, I walked over and met these people. This was when I was passed by this son of the family with his drum of water. This was my 1st visit, and given the late hour of the day, I only really met them, had a quichk chat and took a few pics before I had to leave. However, I shall visit them again, and then maybe there will be more time to do what I like to do.
