Hi John

I´ve tried to capture this place in a way that made justice to its beauty, but I didn`t really succeed in my efforts.
Right here I can see in this wonderful shot how it must be done with great succes !
Very well executed !
Congrats !

I havn't seen a picture of this place from that angle. I like it a lot. Very moody or shall a say "trollsk".
John Colbensen  "Trollsk" I agree...hmm what would "trollsk" be in english? ehhh.."trollish" ? ;) I had to climb out on some rocks to get the angle I wanted. I could easily fall (about 60 meters down there) but I've never been scared of heights, and that might NOT be a good thing. Thank you Anna, for kind words :)

The processing gave great result.
John Colbensen  The colours were dull so the idea to present it in B/W was obvious. Thanks Yngve :)
We can see the landscape grandiosity in this photo. Great !

Great shot, John, this is the Trollstigen in Norway, right? I've been there too, amazing how you captured it!
John Colbensen  Spot on Johan. It's about 1 1/2 hours drive from my home. A wonderful place to be. And your comment was super, thank you :)
Johan Nieuwerth  What? I was already jealous of the shot itself, now I'm jealous of THAT too! :-)
John Colbensen  It's kind of funny. When you live in the midst of beauty you seem to ignore it after some years. But photography is a tool that make me see the beauty again. And I feel so lucky living in the midst of it :)
ps. I saw your Icelandseries...nice stuff. Iceland will be my next aim!! :)
Johan Nieuwerth  Iceland is SO worth a visit... you really should go! Check out e.g. the pictures of Raymo here on 1X, they are truly amazing. By the way, I also experimented a bit on Fotopedia. If you look at an album I created there (http://www.fotopedia.com/albums/rjEnCsr7PTE) then you also have some Wikipedia / Google Maps context, it's a nice site.
John, this reminds me of the steep mountain sides in Greece with the dizzy roads. Nostalgia trip.
Great composition and powerful post-processing. It really adds a dramatic mood with those dark clouds. Bravo

With regards,

Sebastian-Alexander
John Colbensen  I can't imagine how difficult it must have been to build this road...opened in 1936.Thank you for your kind words Sebastian :)

I can imagine having fun on my Ducati round them bends.....if I still had it of course.:(

JP
John Colbensen  You had a Ducati? That would've been something to portray in these surroundings. feel sorry for your loss though...I bet it was red...;)
John Parminter  Indeed, it was red John. Had a lot of fun on it and used it quite a bit to travel the country when working in different locations but had to stop every half hour or so with sore arms and a numb arse.... eventually it had to go when wife and children came along though.
I haven't been tempted to reaquaint myself with a bike in mid-life, probably a safe thing!
JP
John Colbensen  haven't really gotten into the biker-life. But I must confess it looks like "freedom" is a keyword. And yes, wives and kids have a tendency to put a stop to our egotrips..;) Maybe it's for the better .:)
I just love the B/W- Great shot. Location?
John Colbensen  It's funny but I tend to go more and more over to B/W.Must be 1X that has been tampering with my brains :) Location: Trollstigen,Moere & Romsdal County,Norway. Lovely words Angela, thank you :)

Bravo! A very good picture indeed.

BTW just by looking at the camera raw settings in the exif I learned a whole new method of converting to grayscale, huge thanks for leaving the exif!
Patricia Sweeney  Hi Xaxas, ok, I'll expose my ignorance here, how do you find this info about the camera raw settings on an image that is not yours? thanks..
Xaxas  Well I saved it on my PC (while I tend to do this with a lot of pictures that are not mine the only reason for that is to learn some things by looking at the EXIF data and delete them afterwards, so I hope this is not a problem for their respective authors)

Once I opened the image with Adope PS CS4 under File -> File Info -> Advanced -> Schema there is information about the camera raw adjustments, applied to the image during conversion from RAW to TIFF.
Here is a screenshot of the menu in question: http://img10.imageshack.us/img10/3040/screeniegb.jpg
As you can see it contains information about the colour temperature, contrast, clarity and the different colour sliders. Basically every single setting that has been applied.
I have no idea whether or not the layout is the same in the older versions of Adobe PS, tho. I've only ever used CS4.
Patricia Sweeney  Xaxas thank you so much for your detailed answer, this is great info! This opens up a whole new reason to spend too much time on my computer! :-))) REally appreciate your time in answering...
P
Xaxas  I'm glad I could help.
Good luck and have a nice evening (or rather have a nice day, seeing that you're from NYC) :)
John Colbensen  Great info Xaxas. See,I didn't know this .Thanks again :)
John Colbensen  Thanx Xaxas. I don't know how you found the Exif but I've now written it under the pic. I seem to forget this :)
