I was there decades ago... among the morning mist, the castle on the mossy rock was an "I-can't-believe-my-eyes" sight. I have seen dozens of pics of that place, this is the one that gives that impression best. Bravo!
John Parminter  Thank TBM

I just love this... I can imagine riding horseback down the hill up to the castle and breathing in the sea-air! I especially like the fact that you've captured the movement of the grasses from the wind.

Dunnottar! One of the most romantically situated castles around.I hope you got a pie from Inverbervie on the way home ;-) My ex was from the east of Scotland so I've been there loads. Nice mono stuff from you coming through. Jon
John Parminter  Got to be a fish supper you mean Jon, but no as I'm on a strictish healthy diet for some up and coming fellraces I'm doing soon :)

beautiful b&w image! the sky is great, light, contrast, subject, compo, everything is perfect.
John Parminter  Thanks eyelife, I have a feeling I could have processed the sky a touch better but I'm not complaining...too much ;-)

A truly amazing POV you have captured here..the land of enchantment! Lovely, just a gorgeous view! Phyllis
John Parminter  It does kind of look pretty ordinary in normal daylight Phyllis I'm afraid. The mono treatment has enhanced it a bit a think.

Quite a surreal setting this! Happy that you are enjoying doing these landscapes in mono. I think that landscapes can be so difficult in B&W, and guess that one has to be so selective. You certainly seem to have nailed this.
John Parminter  Thanks very much Andre, I think this was definately one case to shoot and present in mono as a lot more drama from the sky is evident than actually was in reality.
Cheers,
JP

Wow, that's my kind of fixer-upper. A little paint, a little spackle and I could be so happy there. Nice shot, as usual.
John Parminter  It will take a bit of fixing up John, this site has been occupied in one form or another for millenia by the earliest dwellers. This ruin is medieval though and likely only 1000 years old or so.

John, when i visited my Scottish friend a few years ago he took me to visit this castle. I made some pictures ( usual tourist snapshots :-)) there too.

You nailed it right on again- beautiful capture of a beautiful place.
John Parminter  Well cheers luc, I had to work at this one a bit..

I have seen shots of this location before John and it always reminds me of Dunluce Castle. Glad it made it through as its a great image and a wonderful B&W conversion.

Gary
John Parminter  Cheers Gary, it was two shots manually blended in PS but actually shot in mono, I've been doing this recently and will adopt this method for B&Ws as I couldn't get to grips doing conversions from colour as I always seemed to muck them up, this way I have only one choice.

JP
Gary McParland  Its especially good then John, very well done

Wonderful work, John, loved this image in screening, beautifuly done!
John Parminter  I'm actually a little diasppointed in my processing Codrin, I did it on my laptop which isn't quite the same as my home m/c and I would have liked to have nailed the sky a bit better but folk seem to like it so I should be happy - I am happy really.. ;-)

Great photo, absolutely amazing location. Can you share where it is? I enjoyed the contra-light a lot but you still got great shadow details.

holly molly....amazing photo, John.
May I ask about the exposure time?
thanks
d
John Parminter  Daniel, a very tricky and challenging shot to get as you can imagine the contrast difficulties shooting straight into the sunrise and very dark foreground. I used 6 stops of soft grad but still couldn't get an acceptable exposure so I took one exp. for the foreground and one for the bright part of the sky, I then blended these two manually in PS before carefully adjusting local areas for contrast using levels layers.
JP
Daniel Portal  Thanks John. I figured it was pretty tricky. Congratulations again.
