Mt Ararat
I took this shot of Mount Ararat from the eastern, Armenian side. It is an old Asian tradition to erect a little stone cairn when the journey has been safely completed. So was mine...
Thanks to Mal Smart and the others for the great help in Critique.

This is SOMETHING.. I watch and watch and watch and can't stop. The symbolism of our conciousness is united with the endless power of nature. You've made it.

I love the shot, because it is so very simple and volumes have such a right place...
Balazs Pataki  Glad you see it this way, thanks!
I've seen this incredible mount from Iran's side. It is known as the sister of "Damavand". Very mystical mountain. Ah, and those little rocks..people in Scandinavia do that as a symbol for trolls ;-) Simple shot, but great feeling...
Balazs Pataki  Seems to be a very ancient symbol... some of the will probably still stand when all else collapses around us. Thanks!

And it also happens to be most popular image of the day, what a shot Balazs! ;)
Balazs Pataki  Now I am totally perplexed... coz a wonderful portrait I dug out from my archive was rejected at lightning speed. Oh man, screeners are hard to please...

I'm so glad that you posted this image Balazs. There are some images that I see that just have that special something that is not easily explained in words but it resonates in the soul, this is such a pic for me. You have not given the image some ethereal preamble of explanation as so many people do, the image just is what it is and I am happy to see and weave my own story here. I love the pic. mal
Balazs Pataki  Many thanks again for your great suggestion which I won't forget any time soon.

Glad it got through. Still some banding, but it didn't matter. Congrats. I feel the bird ought to be an Eagle but is probably a Raven or Crow. Actually, it should be a dove with an olive branch in it's beak but never mind.
Balazs Pataki  Most importantly, it's not a chicken. Although I've never seen a photo of a flying chicken. Maybe it would even add to the mood.
Probably it's a hawk, there are telephone masts nearby where they like to sit and watch out for the odd mouse. Thanks Jon!
Daniel Portal 2 years ago
stunning really. To me the bird "makes" the picture. Just brilliant.

How long did you have to wait till the bird got in the right place?
Balazs Pataki  1/200 of a sec. :) It was a matter of luck, as this is the only frame where His Birdness was graceful enough to fly into the frame. Thanks Daniel!

Balazs were you in Turkey? Mt. Ararat (Agri Dagi) is beautiful.
Balazs Pataki  I was, but this is taken from the other side at a place called Khor Virap, about 30-35 kilometers from the mountain itself (just opposite to Dogubeyazit - between the two places the summit would be right in the middle). The border and the next Efes pilsner was just a few hundred meters away. One thing I regret is to never have climbed to the summit.

Vestiges of Noah's Arc....the alledged significance of this mountain...?
Lovely study, given life by that bird in flight.
Balazs Pataki  Once I got stuck with my car on a rock. Since then I know how old Noah must have felt... thanks!
