Glad to hear that this was set up, Clyde... but it does not detract in any way from the awesomeness of this image! Terrific colour, light, action, composition, explosions & debris!!! Outstanding work!
how could you had chance to take this shot? very lucky person! great action photo.
Clyde Beamer  Sebastian, if you read below, way below you will find that this was shot during a film shoot I was working for to promote a show about paramedics.

I don't know how you managed to take so a good photo in such an extreme conditions but...bravo, it's totally amazing.
Clyde Beamer  Thank you Javier, it was actually a rather controlled environment as it was a film shoot for promotion of a TV show. Neither the actors or I were in any danger, but the explosions were loud and exciting none the less!
Javier Miqueleiz  Nevertheless, I have to say that it looks SO real. I guess that's a compliment :). It's very dramatic, your boss must've been happy with the shot.

Awesome shot Clyde!
Clyde Beamer  Thanks Ralf, I started to enter it in Everyday, but thought it would be too "smart ass". It's fun to get to work on shoots like this. We have been working with these shots for days now adding debris and embers in the foreground of the high speed motion shots. We shot most of this at 800 frames per second.
nice concept

Hey Clyde this is real drama a fantastically real image that shows what can be done with imagination & ingenuity. It must have been tremendous to be part of. Its funny I have been doing some extra work to help improve my understanding of what happens on a film set my last job was as a paramedic in a music video I only wish I could have been the other side of the camera after seeing this! Brilliant work an instant favorite.

Thanks guys for all your comments!! This very elaborate setup was shot on the docks in San Pedro, CA for promotion of NBC's upcoming fall paramedic show "Trauma". There were more camera's on this shoot than any I've been a part of. And, sadly, not one frame of film passed before a shutter, all digital. Red One, Phantom HD, Canon 5D in movie mode, 4 Canon 1D's in still mode & 2 Nikon D90's.

I produced this image by converting from raw and building a custom color look in photoshop with Nik filters. A few foreground embers and sparks were added, but that's it. This is obviously a professional shoot with lot's of people involved, a very collaborative effort for sure. Lot's of fun and a very cool post production process that is currently ongoing. I am currently supervising the production of @20 promotional spot from the material we shot that day. I will try to post a link to a QT movie in the coming days once some of the spots have aired.

Shot using a Steadicam while running wildly away from the explosions? My hunch is that this is professional work, shot while acting as a consultant on a film set.
But you know me...those things don't matter. This is one dramatic photo.
Bob Patefield 3 years ago
I didn't have to do that when I was a Paramedic ;^) We were usually much closer to the explosions. To be serious Clyde, this is an incredible image however you did it. Congratulations.
