King Douglas  Thanks very much, Tamara. You already know that I admire your work. Are any of the images in your 1X.com portfolio self portraits...that is, I'd like to see one or more photos of you as a dancer.

Cheers,

King
SofiG - Tamara Cerna  Thank you for your kind words. And I'd really like to have the opportunity to take pictures, on my photos, dancers who are proficient in their field. The ballet I have a close relationship. But I think we both like to shoot not just ballet. Your work is beautiful and I wish you very much success.
King Douglas  Thank you, Tamara, and all the best to you.

I have a question - is this alive, directly captured at the Ballet performance, or in Studio? Thank you
King Douglas  Alive, yes, but created in my studio--not in performance.
thanks, Biliana!
Biliana  Thank you for your answer Douglas :) I presumed so because of the special light! It is a wonderful scene and ballerina :)

It had to be a King.

Distinctive style. Spot on comp and lighting... as usual. Great shot King.
King Douglas  Thanks, Jeremy...very kind of you to take the time to comment.

I love how her tutu disappears and becomes part of the light. Kind of a metaphor, no?
King Douglas  You are very observant (of course). The quality of the light and its interaction with the translucency of the tutu is deliberately subtle. Thanks so much for noticing, Judy W.

lovely work King! I love the background transition from light to dark which makes it high-key where you want it (legs and tutu), but emphasizes drama in the face.
King Douglas  Thanks, Lev, for the fine compliment. When I was a working photographer, such background transitions were what separated the men from the boys, so I'm pleased that you noticed.

Timeless...
King Douglas  Thanks you, Balazs, although I feel like I'm running a bit low on time myself...probably good for another 30 years at most. :>)

Very beautiful work, King, again, the perfect moment of balance and elegance, wonderful song in this image! Love it!
King Douglas  I'm hoping to create more dance photographs when I complete my natural light studio behind my house in 2011. By then, I may have a good DSLR, too.

Thanks very much, Codrin...it always means a lot when you take the time to leave a comment on one of my images.

King Douglas  Yes, "friend" sounds about right. Thanks, Stephen!
Beautiful, light and airy.. A perfect ballerina in a perfect pose.. I love how the background tones from light to dark. She really is a lovely fairy!
King Douglas  Oh, you sweetheart! I think you may know a bit about ballet...n'est pas?

Thanks, Elisabeth.

Woarf, a masterpiece... again ;)

Beautifull, really ! I yearn to do some dancer shots ! Inspirational work !
King Douglas  Thanks, Ivan. What does "Woarf" mean? I'm old and not with it anymore.

Dancers can be fun to work with, but they have their own notions of what will look good on camera. Having been a professional dancer, I know what to look for in the way of technique, although it is not likely that many viewers who are not dancers themselves would be able to tell the difference. I shoot for the expert dance audience as well as a general audience.
