Mathilde's skirt

This skirt and stola belonged to the late Mathilde Willink, who was found dead in her appartment in the 70-ties. Mathilde was a model and the second wife of the Dutch painter Carel Willink (1900-1983). The Dutch couturier Fon Leng made " different" skirts for Mathilde ... like this one. Mathilde can be seen as a regular model in Carel Willink's paintings.

dank je voor je complimentn Vwb de eenvoudige avond japon van Mathilde: ik kon het voor een week end lenen van een bekende van me toen ik haar bij toeval vertelde over Mathilde...zij had Mathilde gekend en wist me veel over dze excentrieke dame te vertellen

I knew Mathilde in Amsterdam and this is a complete outfit by Fong Leng, not just a skirt. She was indeed found dead in her apartment because she shot herself.

Bizar beeld, maar dat bedoel ik dan in positieve zin... :)
Haar pose is prachtig...het enige wat ik jammer vind, is dat de aandacht net iets teveel naar de sjaal gaat, die tussen de jas uitpiept...maar verder gewoon TOP!

Peter Kemp het bizarre beel was de bedoeling .. hmm ik heb wel andere met minder prominente sjaal... misschien lukt het me om hem je nog eens te laten zien hahahah

Peter, my profound thanks for this photo and the added info. Carel Willink is my all-times favourite painter (when it is not Vermeer) and I had the postcard version of one of his pictures on my desk for more than a decade. I first saw his works in Antwerp in 1987 and was totally engulfed by his magic realism. What you produced here, is from every point of view - technique, mood, context - an excellent hommage to the master.
Besides, now I can see that Seraphine needs no corsette for her curves ;) Poor Marilyn Monroe must be revolving in her grave from envy.
