The Big Bang
Yes I know its a much done sunset motif, apologies but we do get spectacular shows here from time to time and this is just my little homage to our star and hoping it doesn't go bang in the near future..!

Wow. Really nice.

I think it's a bit tilted to the left. You should fix that because the image's really nice.
John Parminter  Thanks Radu, use the scroll bar on the right and check the horizon out, I put faith in my trusty spirit level..;-))

Es sind die Fuss-Spuren die dem Bild das Besondere geben. Sind es die eigenen? Gruss Franz

A decorative sunset-over-wet-sand, but what has the photographer contributed to the shot? - apart from the footprints. If this is the kind of stuff the screening process selects I'm outa here.
John Parminter  Indeed Jonathan, just a sunset over wet sand and I didn't contribute anything else apart from my footprints other than pressing the shutter. I understand you feel it isn't up to scratch as its a very common motif but the screener's must have liked something in it for them to publish. Maybe they picked up on the 'we were born out of the Sun' type sentiment I was alluding to in the title, who knows as they don't usually justify their decisions. I'm just glad they did, I understand you are directing your comment at the screeners, after all, can I be blamed for photographing the thing that allows us to be here and to enjoy our hobby?

Cheers,

JP
Jonathan Charles  Of course you are right, it is a lovely shot and entirely successful as far as it goes: I am just baffled by the screening process. Apart from my own photo being rejected I have commented on 2 other really original and thought-provoking images rejected and subjected to the most arbitrary nit-picking comments by people who missed the point of both of them and seemed to want to make them into completely different pictures. I was wondering what kind of paragon of artistic genius would be required to actually pass the screening and the first one I found was your sunset. I did not mean to criticise you or your picture, just the system. And, you probably guessed, I was upset by the rejection of what I felt to be one of my best photos - it seems to have been deleted even though I asked for critiques; if you're interested it's at http://photo.net/photodb/photo?photo_id=669162&size=lg
John Parminter  No problem Jonathan, I understand your point of view and there are other people in the the same boat as you, me included sometimes. There are many discussions in the forums about this very subject, it can be confusing but the screening process I guess is subjective like a lot of photography. If images appeal enough to the members and screeners it gets published, if not then it doesn't. I think that is the bottom line of it all..?
