The Song Man
He plays his harmonica on the streets of downtown San Antonio for change. I listened to his stories as I walked with him to buy him a hamburger with my credit card (since I didn't have any change).

Sandy, you really inspire such trust in your models and deliver it straight to me as your audience which lends a poignancy to your photography that never ceases to amaze me. Well done!

umm...interesting earphones :/
Sandy Powers  He had one of those old little cd players and one CD of Reba McIntyre that he said he listened to every day. That and his harmonica were just about his only possessions besides the clothes on his back.

The connection between the photographer and the subject is readily apparent - and adds a warmth to this that wouldn't exist otherwise.

Unique! And touching!

One time in critique section somebody wrote a comment to me that i hooked up too much with the model. But yours show me one time more that a "hook up" is necessary to make such great portrait! It needs a connection to the people to get such wonderful moments from the people.
With your story below it also shows me that sometime the small moments more important than the great moments. Silence and feel his play in his very single unique moment. The feeling and courage you show with this is honourable and only people with true heart can do so. My great respect for you!

Robert
Sandy Powers  Robert, thank you so much! I totally agree. To me, that's what separates moving photography from technically perfect, but cold "pictures" of people. It's the story in their eyes that makes a portrait nice to look at. Thank you for your encouragement! It really means alot to me!

Ok. This is special. Very real, very personal.
Sandy Powers  Thank you Sherwin! The whole experience was really special for me too. It made me want to go back the next day and either take him -- or someone else and buy them another hamburger :)
