The mountain
Chopicalqui northwest ridge seen from close to the summit. It is much harder to climb than the normal route up the southwest ridge.

This is very nice! The high contrast effect has a great influence on my experienced DOF, and adds a dramatic look to the photo, great work

Awesome atmosphere. Oniric, almost a nightmare to imagine to climb by this way.

great emotion here!!
F.
Alexandre Buisse  Thanks for saying that, Fulvio, I really agree with you but many people only see a big pile of rock with snow on top. Truly sad, in my opinion.

Magnificent! I really like the contrast and tones.

Absolutely adore this, looks almost like a graphic composition, such beautiful lines and tones. Such a sense of majesty!
Alexandre Buisse  Thanks Alex! This is exactly what I try to share with my mountain images, so I'm always very glad when told I succeeded!

Very cool contrast and patterns Alexandre, looks Alien! I can't imagine how someone can climb that thing!
Alexandre Buisse  Thanks Ralf. It's actually far from being the hardest looking line I saw in the Cordillera Blanca. You wouldn't believe what people climb on Chacraraju or Taulliraju...

very nice, maybe one of your best!
Alexandre Buisse  Thanks Roger. I agree, it is one of my favourite too.

It's beautiful, but it scares me half to death just looking at it. And to imagine that you were there...
Alexandre Buisse  I was climbing the much easier southwest ridge, this one is still out of reach of my mountaineering skills, at least for the time being :)

Alexandre Buisse  A great compliment coming from you, Dare.

Alexandre Buisse  Thanks Marcus, it was quite incredible to watch indeed.

Did you adjust sharpness/contrast after the shot? or that is how the camera shoot it? Great picture! Congrats!
Alexandre Buisse  I did some local curves to adjust contrast and lower brightness on the raw file. Sharpness is pretty much out of the box, though (the magic of high altitude air).
jovanybg  ...and the speed of the shooter - 1/2500...
How can I put the picture in my favorites?!
I'm eager to go to Peru now! ;)

Aye, I'll chuck that one in my Mountains album...

JP
Alexandre Buisse  I'm honoured, John, that you can find space between some of your gorgeous Glencoe shots.
John Parminter  Nae Alex, you can photograph a mountain better than I and most. Looking at this now on my home calibrated monitor it looks gothic and sinister, quite a processing technique you have there or are them Peruvian hills actually from a different planet??..:-)

JP
Alexandre Buisse  Well, both :) I deliberately turned brightness down in post-processing to accentuate the dramatic look, and then you had the high-altitude mountain light on soft gradients of snow factor.
John Parminter  I'll look out for that factor next time I'm on top of Ben Nevis....:-))

Alex, we may have to open a special category for these. "Above Oxygen"
Very nice.

JB
Alexandre Buisse  Heh, I think it's a sign of sorts when my photography gets better as my brain gets more oxygen deprived...
