Impressive indeed...I guess this is how Van Gogh saw the world.

BTW, the halo around the tree makes me think it is HDR although you said it isn't. and the the tree somehow looks a bit unnatural.

But the photo in general is stunning, I love the foreground, that golden bokeh that leads your eye into the photo is actually nice and not distracting.

I know many have suggested you change some stuff about this photo....I say don't, it is impressive the way it is.

Krzysztof Ligeza First of all - I am a person, who thinks that sweet lies are something disgusting... But please, do not take it personally.
Jose, from all these comments- did you really found something really meaningful? I did not mean to be not drunk enough to look at your picture but at the sociological situation, which just made me feel ill. But I will leave it for now as we speak here about pictures not the sociology...

With regards to your picture- the composition is the aspect, which I appreciate. There is some kind of specific balance here and the idea of small DOF is good looking as well (I like the bokeh). The controversial thing for me is the postprocessing. Regardless what you did and is it HDR or not (I have seen hundreds of really good looking HDR and in some certain situations HDR or especially DRI might give far better results than gradual filters), it just looks very artificial to me. Sorry but this aspect dominates my thoughts about this picture.

No HDR?! What is the halo around the tree then?

1mihai I was tempted to say that it's HDR but it's not... My guess is that the halo comes from cranking up the highlight protection in Capture NX

Marcel Clemens Hmmmm, I doubt that very much, highlight protection effects the highlights. To me it looks like the usual tone mapping artifact from Photomatix or similar programs. Because so called tone-mapping and HDR are 2 different things (that usually go hand-in-hand, admittedly) this image may have been tone-mapped without actually being an HDR. By the way, it's not "Moire"!

1mihai I'm still not convinced... I say in addition to highlight protection (for the sky) he used shadow protection (for the tree and mountains), or something similar in Photoshop. Now that I think about it I get this effect pretty frequent working with NEFs.
Anyway, the author is the one that can shed light on the little "mystery" here :)

Very nice image, Jose. I love the wide angle effect on the sky.
I think you should fix the halo and reupload - you don't want a glaring technical flaw like that ruining your portifolio and such a wonderful image!
I personally would also prefer the out of focus immediate foreground cropped out.

Jose,

A striking landscape image - very different to the normal landscapes that we are "accustomed" to seeing!

You have an image which is so full of dynamism yet it is clearly a landscape.

Reminds me of a Van Gogh, I must say.

Nice work Jose, I understand why you indicate no HDR cause some folks would think it was. The only thing that bothers me is the slight hue around the tree that does give the HDR appearance. But still a very nice image.
