Hi John, this image is totally out there. I love it. So much atmosphere and the lighting is sweet. You've created something imaginative, evocative and original. I like it so much that I googled you to see more and pass on the well deserved praise. As a result I've signed up to 1x and am blown away by the quaity of the work on this site.
I also use a D300 and yup, it's a nice piece of kit that you always strive to do justice to (same for a heck of lot of other cameras out there), and I respect your humility in regard to this. It chimes with my opinion that getting a good camera does not make you a good photographer. Your'e making a fine job of it so far though...
Regards and respect, John
John Parminter  Thanks very much John, I appreciate your comments. Indeed, the D300 is a fine camera and I have no plans to change it yet for a long while.

Cheers,

JP

Great view and quite incredible result for d300.
What is the industrial complex in the background?
John Parminter  Thanks Viktor, the D300 is a pretty amazing camera, better than I am a photographer....
The scene is Aberdeen harbour, the main supply base for the North Sea oil and gas industry, its where I work.
JP
Viktor Macha  Thanks for promt reply, John. North Sea oil and gas industry? Sounds good. ;)

Alas John, I think you have captured the way our 'throw away society' is going. In some of our cities in Australia we have a central telephone number you can call to pick up discarded trolleys. Maybe you should give them a call. They do pay well! Cheers, John
John Parminter  Do they pick up from Eastern Scotland...:)

Thanks

A great sad picture...
I like the idea of industrial pollution shows in your picture.
Long exposure and grey sky grows the sensation of non pleasure in your picture.
I really like it.

Regards.
Yves
John Parminter  Thanks very much Yves, it's different to my usual stuff but worthwhile showing I think.

The urban industrial echo of your picture "desolat moor". Litering through laziness is bad enough but when I see the trouble to which people have gone to dump a car or fridge in the countryside I can only put it down to vandalism.
Super image John.
John Parminter  Thanks Vic, I actually think it's got a charm even though it is obvious extreme litter.

What a brilliant photograph......and a wonderful debunk of the usual low light level, Loch, long exposure images of waves over bolders. Love it.
John Parminter  Cheers Ben, hey, I can do that usual debunk stuff equally as well you know.... ;-)

Eine super Idee. Aber hallo! Klasse Gruß Franz
John Parminter  Thanks franz
just great. very nice with the grey tones, and then the orange to break it all a bit up.
John Parminter  It's nearly a mono image as it was quite dark when I took it..

Hey! JP goes grunge ;-) really good shot. Great use of long exposure too. The dull grey sky works well, like a low metal ceiling or something. I look forward to 'Striding Edge with Carlsberg Cans'. . .
John Parminter  Got to make Aberdeen appealing somehow Jon....

:-)))
JBA  I know what you mean! Though i recall that the bit called 'Foot Dee' is rather dinky in a fishing villagey way. Head up river is my advice. My ex's dad lived in Aboyne. Things get seriously scenic up towards Braemar as you no doubt know.
Very good photo

I see that you're starting to reinvent yourself and still be true to your first love - well done!
John Parminter  No real re-invention Kevin, I have a passion for the coast and water shots and do these all the time, just not many have been worthy of 1X.......:-)))

wow amazing!
30 second exposure time wow i like this!
time this photo was taken?
John Parminter  30 to 45 minutes after sunset at about 10:30pm, there was actually alot of ambient light from the harbour and reflections off the water.

This can't be yours! Excellent one!
John Parminter  Arh you mean it's excellent, so that means it can't be mine.

Cheers Alex,only jesting...

:-)
Alex OBrien  Hehe...It is not a beautiful scenic shot yet one with mood and message and atmosphere. And besides, must be tricky getting a beautiful photo of Aberdeen! ;)

you are impossible John!
good one!....Again :))
John Parminter  Cheers Monique, I was bored one evening after work so took a walk down the harbour for sunset but this old discarded trolley got me thinking of the stuff that gets thrown away and ending up in the sea. Thought it would make a reasonable foreground interest if anything.

:-)
