One of the photos of the "we built this city"series.

Straightened the towers on the lhs.
the colours are pretty much as they exist.
Like the clouds; a rarity in Dubai.
Reduced the shadow of the hard hat which covered the lhs of his face.

Nice Composition. I think that the background blur is appropriate and the way that the man looks having same height as the towers makes him look proudly tall and strong. great job !

This is awesome! I love "real life" photography like this. The urban background makes it so gritty and interesting.

It seems another place, a publicity photo. An excellent shot, perfect lighting, color and composition.
Rosco  thank you for your comment.
the colours came out well thanks to the overcast sky.

I find this image very surreal. With the colors and the lighting and everything. Great shot!

I looked at your opening statement. I agree. I find great dignity among the workers building in Qatar, and very much enjoy interacting with them.

I saw the shot you put up for critique and don't think it is nearly as strong as this one. But, hey! At the end of the day, if taking the shots gives you pleasure, that is enough.
Rosco  Richard,

Thank you for your comment. I see that you also take photos of construciton environment and seem to share my views on their (overlooked) dignity.
I would agree with you that this photo is stronger than the one currently up for critique. I guess they cannot all be winners but nonetheless I would hope that the respect for the person captured shines through. Unfortunately most photos I have are registrations only assuming that what is on display would interest other people as after all construction sites are no-go areas for a lot of people and the location (dubai) itself could be defined as exotic . It now appears that this is not the case which puts me in a bit of a predicament as all of a sudden my stock of photos for upload has dimisnhed considerably. :-)
Such is life.....

Richard Messenger  Hey Robert ...

Good to hear from you.

I don't get many posted on 1x, but have a lot under my name on flickr!

I'm not quite sure I understand what you're saying about 'registration' and your stock of photos dwindling.
Rosco  Richard with registration I mean that I shoot what is out there without looking for that little extra OE seems to ask for in order to be published.
To be frank, there is not even time to look for that little extra as most times these men are moving around as they are working. also the surroundings are pretty bare and avoid of detail. as such most photos (my stock) does not comply with what OE desires which implies that I what I can upload at OE is limited.

But then again may be I took photography too lightly to date and thanks to OE I am learning to look at my subjects in a new fashion, trying to find an angle which is just that bit more interesting or original. For the "we built this city" series OE just may have come a bit too late.

Super street shot! As I imagine this is not a model, right?
Great :)

Cheers :)
Roelant
Rosco  No, no model. just a man from India, I presume who was there to direct traffic.
I was a bit lucky I guess with the final result.

great light
Rosco  Agree the light was special that day.
In Dubai there are rarely clouds and this day the sky was full of them but not completely locked up. This resulted in a very soft light which brought out these nice colours of the man I photographed.

Thank you for your comments.
I am glad you like it too.
A black & white photo exists also but the colour image remains more appealing.

I like that he is standing tall amongst some of the taller buildings in Dubai and that he is holding up on his own.
