Great shot with a bit of humour as well! The lack of one antler makes it even more interesting.

what an amazing sight that must have being John:)
John Parminter  It's quite a common site really Tim if you are in the highland glens around Easter time. They cast their antlers for new growth about then and always one before the other usually a few hours upto a day between. Some of the managed estates are very easy to get good close up shots of Red deer and there is little myth in the hours of silent stalking that one normally associates with getting close to these. They are fully wild but often come down in herds to the roadside to graze and that is when I took this opportunity.

It brought an instant smile on my face! :)
A well deserved 1x photo!
John Parminter  Thanks Vidar, I wanted to exploit the slightly humurous side to this shot even if my friend isn't too happy.

Somehow I knew this was your work when voting. Good work, she looks quite calm, although suspicious of the photography stealthily creeping around in her territory ;-)

Cheers
John Parminter  Thanks Ansel, hope I'm not becoming too predictable. Only the males grow antlers Ansel so 'she' is a 'he'.

:-)

Cheers,
Ansel Siegenthaler  hmm, yes. Somehow I missed that. Girls don't have horns....must remember :-)
Loved it in screening. Love these animals...

Hey Balazs, you don't know how long it took me to clone that one out!
Balazs Pataki 3 years ago
Good shot, but I miss a cigarette from his mouth and for the sake of consequency you should have cloned away the remaining horn.

;))))

When I saw this chap I thought he had just cast one of his antlers, they cast one at a time and often a few hours or up to a day between the other but on close inspection I think he has lost it fighting or accidentally.
I can't work out if he has a rueful smile or he is showing disdain towards me!
