OdDoF, this is hauntingly gorgeous! Seeing this phenomenon is something I always planned to to before I die... this image has renewed my interest and made me determined to make the journey. I've read that around Sep 21 is usually a good time - is this so where you are? And are they visible every night, or just when you're lucky?
Any tips would be greatly appreciated.
And thanks again for the beautiful image!

OdDoF Thanks a lot, Andy. The 11 year solar activity cycle is at a low level right now, so if you want to be more or less sure to see some auroras, it is better to wait a couple of years. Northern Norway is a very good place to watch the aurora, and you can observe it from October to March. At the peak of the solar activity cycle you are likely to observe some aurora every night if the sky is clear.

OdDoF If you wait a couple of years, the solar activity will be much higher than it is now. Come to Northern Norway in winter time, preferably sometime between October and March. You will then have high probability of seeing some spectacular auroral displays.

wingedoracle When are the peak months to venture into northern Norway and how far and where as in what owns and cities. Looking at this image I think its safe to say out door camping is out.:)))
