My friend Fons
The black background is authentic, he was sitting with his back to a dark wall.

Great portrait. Style I want to master, but on film.
Balazs Pataki  In a studio, Fuji Astia or any other warm-aligned film would defeat a digital SLR, a medium format positive film even crushingly. In available-light conditions, it's digital territory - I can't imagine that any film @1600 ISO could yield this result.
Bottomline: brush, oil and canvas is still the best :)
Timor Tom  I am afraid that you are right. I don't think any film above 200 will give the sharpness of detail.

Enjoying a break from the course, and seeing this on a screen in broad daylight, but WOW, enen
in these conditions looks so impressive! Prophet, as Szabolcs mentioned, seems very apt.
Great portrait study and sublime light.
Balazs Pataki  BTW, it's natural light here coming through a small and dusty window.
Balazs Pataki  It's good to know that it meets even your standards. Thanks & be back soon.

A truly excellent portrait and I don't even like people..! I saw this in screening and wanted to write something like 'certain folk were made so people could point cameras at them' but in the end just voted for publish.
Mind, I thought it was taken by someone else though.....:-) hehe
Balazs Pataki  Many thanks John. Fons really is a very special character.
the light is just FANTASTIC ! Great job!
Balazs Pataki  Multumesc!

Faboulous, Balazs, as i said in screening, it´s "da Vinci" with Rembrandt light ! Superb !
Balazs Pataki  I was very lucky with the natural light here, thank you Rui.

This is a superb portrait, the lights are simply stunning, the face unique with the beard and the wrinkles. Is he a simple man or a prophet? Who knows?
Personally I would prefer the "Mandolin player", because of the story it tells. Here I see something beautiful, there I could hear the music too. I'm just sorry it wasn't accepted.
Balazs Pataki  I also like the other one better and have absolutely no idea why it was rejected (like usual)... köszönöm.

doro rapp  ah - that helps :))) egeszegedre ;) - oh - probably belgian chocolate!! alors bonne appetit :) yummieh :)
Balazs Pataki  Actually it's not chocolate but a cake made with chocolate, and to add style to pleasure we're watching the movie "Chocolate"... girlie day today :D

Happy again?
Lars :-)
Balazs Pataki  Now I can say that 50% of my approvals is portrait and 50% documentary, which probably makes me more believable as a senior critic for those channels. If we ignore the exact numbers :)
Lars Klottrup  I won't tell any! :-)
