Jerome & Jeraldo
For years now I have noticed this cottage in a most charming setting next to the road just outside Knysna along the Garden Route. This time I pulled in and after an introduction, started snapping away at the Christians family and all the kids that soon arrived on the scene.
As with the Kannemeyer series, I have visited them again, and in the process got to know more of the family members and neighbours, adding more photos to their family album on each visit, and ocassionally landing a gem for myself.
The Christians have been living in this cottage at Bracken Hill for four generations, and Jerome is now the senior member, and lives here with his sister. He is here photographed with his cousin, Jeraldo, who has just returned from school.
After finishing high school, he did IT training for 18 months, but as reasonable jobs are hard to find, he now is a 'meter' at the local forestry station . That is someone who measures the tree trunks once they are felled, and calculates what best way to achieve maximum yield from the trunk.
Personally I am so glad that Jerome's picture was selected, as this gentle person served as my 'link' to this insular community as well as a similar one called Vrystaat up on a hill close by.

Another pearl in your juwelerybox, antother star in your eyes!
I love your very human and personal approach.
Even if your photo's are totaly self-supporting and clear, the comment you add to them is so opening horison's that it is a real more-value. and in fact, it tells even more about you than about your models with who you seem to create a very personal contact.
Unfortunately, my English is not good enough to do the same, and often I'm sad about it ... but ... this is only a very smal problem when one looks arround with eyes wide open.
Untill next time, and congrats again for your oeuvre.
Piet

Another wonderful image, Andre and of course always a pleasure to read your words...to make a journey in the world you've captured! Great work, love it!
all the best
Codrin
Andre du Plessis  Hi Codrin. I am glad that you enjoy the story as well - to me it's so essential. Feels wrong if I don't share my subjects with
whoever is looking at them. Kind of a 'responsability' Best wishes, Andre

J'aime beaucoup cette image très forte, avec 2 personnages très expressifs. Bravo
Andre du Plessis  Hi Michel. Thanks for that. Most of the people I photograph in these communities
do not really like to smile, however, I agree that their stoic impressions do project
emotion, and to a certain extend leaves the viewer to make up the rest. See Pearl & Allie
by Michael Walker - I really enjoyed that upload today.

Andre du Plessis  Thanks Colmar. Just before upload I darkened the window panes
and that created the balance that a previous conversion lacked.
Glad that you approve of this image.
