Hmm.... he didn't take his hat off while inside.....this was drummed into us as well - that an to not leave a lady unescorted to walk by herself.

Probably heading in to a boring day at the office... :-)

This must have gotten in because he's headed to the third world... :P
Steve Hill  My thoughts exactly. I mean, why else? Looks like distant shades of Third-World-A-Liciousness might be the key. ;)

eta: I bet if I do a trip to Thailand/Viet Nam I'd a go a 1000 for a 1000. lol

I keep coming back to study this. It really is stunning. May I ask if the lens you used was an 85mm prime..? I am pining after one.
Steve Hill  Thanks for the comment and yes..it's a Nikon 85mm 1.4 taken with the D700. Since I like to shoot wide open it's become my walk-around Street lens. I love it.

Probably Not Off To War(Judging by his lack of gear)...But A Great Shot Regardless.
DOF Is Spot On!
Steve Hill  I believe he was en route to a transport and not going directly to the front from the R Train. In short, this has become a pretty common sight. Every few weeks I see a guy on the Subway, looking lonely and deep in thought. The gent represented them well. Cheers.

a sad, moving picture. perfect selection of DOF. it was probably not intended, but the newspapers next to him are an omen of his future. very emotional.
That is so scary! I can't even imagine what thoughts he may struggle with. Very good!

Very Good capture.

Excellent. Glad you kept it in colour as as well.
Steve Hill  I did do a B&W version but with the dof so shallow he looks more isolated and alone in color, which is the point of the image. Cheers

The isolation that the shallowish depth of field has created reflects his mood so effectively.

Steve Hill  Thanks for the comment. I was happy it worked as I saw it. Shooting in the subway is hard and I was glad to have my settings right and the speed to rifle of a bunch of shots without him spotting me. I suppose the fact that he was so deep in a zone helped make it happen. Cheers
