Andre, you are on of the best life photographers of today. This picture is as title says. Bravo.
Andre du Plessis  Hey Dragan - this was the 1st time that I used digital in DSLR. I bought my camera the previous day in London, and travelled to Paris the next day. I was still reading the instruction manual when these two people came to sit opposite me in the Paris Metro. So this was quite lucky in fact. But thanks very much for the accolade. I shall treasure that:)

Brilliant!
Is she holding an "andreduplessis.com" bag? :)
Andre du Plessis  :):) No - Andre is a large French retailer in shoes. Just pure coincidence, and something I only spotted in post editing.

No question about a multitude of stories in this image..reminds of the NYC subway's and the faces of the people riding home from work. Outstanding shot Andre.
Andre du Plessis  Thanks Phyllis. As mentioned below somewhere - I usually don't do candids, so this one came as a surprise. I went back into my originals last month, and saw that I took only two frames, and the other had only their heads and one heck of a lot of ceiling. So Lady Luck was with me this time. Andre

Each and every face is telling a story!

Just great Andre!!! My compliment!
Andre du Plessis  Many thanks Anja. Maybe their faces are not telling us the whole story. I guess that is what can be so exciting about this kind of work ....we make up the rest in our minds...Take care, Andre

Perfect getimed!
sentjoh  Sorry Andre,

For some mystical reason I thought you where form Belgium, which explains my reaction in Dutch. Funny though to see how many similarities it has with Dutch. I?m not having much difficulty in reading your South African. But never the less I will continue in English ;-)

Grt. Johan
Andre du Plessis  No problems at all Johan:-) If I'm lucky to get a comment from you again in future, do it in Dutch please.
I enjoyed that.....and thought that you'll find the Afrikaans quite amusing:-) Groet, Andre

Cette photo en dit long sur la vie, le couple, les gens en général!!
Bien vu André!!!
Bravo!!!
Andre du Plessis  Hi Clio! I get so much joy from photographing ordinary people, and never really pay attention to their
faces or photogenic quality. But as it usually turns out, the images of the more characterful ones are the
ones that succeed. It's like 50% of the battle is won by the subject, and the rest is up to you. This is a lesson that OE is
costantly bringing home to me, and I shall have to be more selective in the people I photograph. Here Robert Hutinski
is in a class of his own. Regards, Andre

A really brilliant photograph Andre. Very interesting to see these expressions in the faces. Many different stories could be written about this picture. There is really resignation to see, especially in the face of the man. Maybe that what Tim Corbell wrote about last night was quite different from being passionate;-)
I wonder how you managed that they didn't notice you while taking this quite intimate picture.
And the bag with the website of your company on it adds personal charm to the scene;-)

Have a nice weekend,
Helmut
Andre du Plessis  Hello Helmut! Many thanks for your thoughtful comment on this image. I was playing with my new camera, and with the noise of the metro I guess that they missed this. I only took one exposure, and prenended to look elsewhere when clicking, so I do not know if they noticed - did not look their way for some ime again...
The www.andre is pure coincidence, and I only noticed this on editing. Great coincidence, though.
Regards, Andre

Fantastic expressions! Great capture.
They seem to be exhausted...maybe they had a very passionate night together. :p
Andre du Plessis  You always see the glass half full, eh? Maybe a bit wishful thinking, but I really hope that you are right about that :-)
Tim Corbeel  lol :D

think this is a fab photo Andre. you can feel how life's unbearable weight is the 4th passenger here. and a little lol about the www address on the plastic bag :-)
Andre du Plessis  Sharp observation Koen! Saw it, but really did not think anyone will spot that.
Quite a coincidence...pleasant one at that.

I have just checked the screening comments that accompanied this image, and am so impressed by the observations mentioned.
One person mentioned that the lady's eyes were not perfectly focused. In my reply to Piet down below I touched on that, as there was a motion artifact that had to be corrected. Another mentioned that the composition is too tight. I cropped this image quite a lot, as I have realised that OE likes more concentrated compositions - something that does not rests well with me, however, in Rome do like the Romans....
There were also complaints afa motif and a few about story.
All in all, thank you for the acute observations of the afore-mentioned critiques. Nice to realise that some really scrutinise the images in screening, and take the time and trouble to validate their decisions.

I like the composition very much !!!! Being a parisian myself, I envy you Andre who succeeded in capturing such a scene in such a difficult environment :) Bravo
Andre du Plessis  Thanks for coming to my rescue Ivan:-)
That city of yours is so special for me. Check out Thomas in my PF - I am off there mid-April
and shall hunt him down to give him his promised prints, and who knows, maybe get another capture.
OE mail me your mobile, and maybe we can meet up for a coffee or wine and chat photo stuff. Regards, Andre

Really great shot. i assume from the angle this was a stealth shot with the camera on your lap pointing up at the people.....very effective.
Andre du Plessis  Ian, candids are not quite my forte, so I am mighty pleased that this one saw the light. In fact, this must have been about the 2nd session with my D300. Had just arrived via Eurostar, and was travelling on the Metro, with the instruction manual in my pocket. Correct - shot this single frame from my lap, and got lucky.

Andre du Plessis  Thanks Jose!

I voted for this in Screening - those expressions are just superb, and the lighting is perfect :)
Andre du Plessis  Hi Kim. Thanks. I had to subdue the upper part quite a bit, and the overhead fluoressants totally overpowered the whole scene. This brightness resulted in clipping, which had to be cloned out. Many thanks for the lovely comment...Andre

absolutely outstanding catch, framed with much feeling for humor and presented in a very wel processed BW..
Piet
Andre du Plessis  Many thanks to the King of Mood! Piet - I struggled a bit with her face. Ever so slight motion artifact that I had to correct.
In the process just maybe a bit sharp on her face at the end. Oh well, who cares - it's up!

Poor man - under pressure from all sides!
Genious presentation!
Looks like a great piece of Art to me!

Lars :-)
Andre du Plessis  Thanks Lars - this was what I thought as well! Kind of fed-up, don't you think?
Would have probably been even more if they knew about me taking this..
