Andre du Plessis  Dear Brukhar
Gosh - this is quite a surprise! Thank you so much for pointing this out to me.
I shall now go back to that site and take a relaxed look...

Andre,
This is definitely one of the best images on 1x.
Brilliant.

Andre du Plessis  Hi Al. Thank you so much for this! I am glad that you enjoy this type of work. Many regards, Andre
love their expression and specially the two flowers inside that plastic glass, amazing details for an excellent portrait, Andre!!
Andre du Plessis  Thanks Antonio. Those same little flowers gave me such a struggle to correct. They were heavily overexposed due to the light
from the door, and lacked detail. Still only so-so, but nevertheless better. Andre

Wonderful image, Andre, sometimes imperfections make it even better, if it makes any sense! Wonderful series about this family! Love it!
all the best
Codrin
Andre du Plessis  Hi Codrin! Many thanks for your sentiments on that.
Mono especially is not very forgiving afa these slip-ups.
So if you see someone with a camera and new yellow clip-on's over his specs - that's me :-)

Another fine study though I guess you also wished the mirror wasn't immediately behind the mans head!
Andre du Plessis  Hi Gerard. Yes, this object hangs at exactly the wrong place. At the time I did not even notice it - was too preoccupied, as photographing strangers in their own homes was a newbie for me.
Before submitting to OE I cloned it out (and did quite a good job at this), but decided rather to submit the original.
I do not mind removing the odd artifact or nuisance, however, this large object was inherently too much part of the original score.
....Thought that I shall take my chance, and hoped that the members will walk tall on this issue....which they thankfully did.
Many thanks for your comment, and also for your very active participation in both forum and critique sections.

gerard sexton  Don't mention it Andre & likewise I respect your honesty its refreshing.

How very wonderful and beautiful! Warmth and love in B&W - nicely done.
Andre du Plessis  Many thanks Deborah. All the members of the Kannemeyer family are so photogenic.
Hopefully I can still get some more of this clam onto these pages. Keep your fingers crossed.
Many thanks, Andre
So much character in this shot. congrats
Andre du Plessis  Anna and you in tandem! Makes my day!!
Thank you kindly Angela. So glad that others can appreciate my

What a wonderful piece! I am captivated by the way you captured them both - all the small details, how they hold each other's hands and those flowers.. a lovely story that brings a smile to my face :)
Great work, Andre!
Andre du Plessis  Daria: Sorry my for spelling / grammar below. One eye on OE - the other on day job....
Andre du Plessis  Thanks Daria. As I mentioned to Anja below, this was completely impromptu, and probably the one that got me started doing this type of work. This one hangs in the same room, above the same bed. The clothy thingy behind Abraham's haed has not been moved elsewhere. Andre
Strong image!
Andre du Plessis  Hi Mitchell - many thanke for this.

Very moving portrait. Special.
Andre du Plessis  Thanks for that.

This type of portraits have special climate. You caught it.
Andre du Plessis  Thanks Timor. Early on I was always intriqued by the photographs of David Goldblatt, a South African, who photographed ordinary people in their ordinary environments. Now I am trying....
Timor Tom  Keep it up, it is a meaningful photography, for now and for posterity. Simple life has enormous sentimental load, never achievable, always in peoples dreams, qintessential happines. Many of your pictures are full of this spirit. Very enjoyable.

Superbe comme d'habitude !
Andre du Plessis  Thank you Ulysse! For OE I have to crop much more that I usually do. Same with this one - had to cut out quite a lot. I like to portray the people I photograph in their habitat, as it usually compliments the story. Many thanks for saying this. Andre

Outstanding portrait! It makes a whole lot of difference that they are holding each others hand! Great work Andre!

Excellent! A lot of emotion. It really stirred my heart.
Andre du Plessis  I have been back to photograph this family in their 2 -roomed shack four times, never pre-arranged, so have there seen anger, happiness, intoxication and despair. They have no money. Yet, whenever they stand or sit for a portrait, all the black stuff goes, and they become like this portrait tells: together. As husband and wife, but even more - dependend on each other. For a difficult or hard life either pulls you apart, or cements the relationship, and luckily it seems the latter applies in the case of the Kannemeyers.

she wanted to made her hair, took some flowers, held her strong husband's hand and now she's happy...love is here in this little room, wonderful mood !
Andre du Plessis  Spot-on with your observarion Nicoleta. Yes, she was a touch nervous - this was taken when I visited this family for the 1st time. She patted her curlers into place beforehand, and then sent Fanie the son to go and pick some daisies to hold, as she felt that their house is a bit ugly, and some flowers will be needed ofset that. Many thanks, Andre

Nice study Andre.

I Like the tones - also the strong hands of the man, contrasted with the softer flowers on the opposite side of the picture.

Colmar
Andre du Plessis  Thanks Colmar. The wide view emphasised the hands, which I like, and in this photo it is quite teling how he pulled her hand over to his side. Regards, Andre
