Andre du Plessis Hi Marie. I love doing this kind of thing, and especially amongst these people that are from 'my place', and that I understand so much better. Somehow that invigorates me when I take my camera and search around when home. Maybe it is good that I have travelled, and spent so much time outside SA, for it makes one appreciates things that you took for granted so much more, and you become more curious about the same. sasson haviv well my friend i came back to see it again and read the comments others left. very easy to comeback to it:) what i find striking about this image beyond the girl and the surrounding is the doll. i guess thinking about the history of white people and Africans in different parts of the world and then seeing the white blond doll creates a statement. a good statement of the changing times.

I open the Critique page today, and there she sat holding her doll. You have made her immortal in this shot. It is both artistic and documentary in style. What you might find interesting is this - This photo could have been taken in my mother's 1950's kitchen; same curtains, tablecloth, chair... doll..and I did a double take because this child looked like my friend Claudia from when I was 7. I want to wrap my arms around both of them. Andre you have done it again! My best, Phyllis

requested I guess as a bit of 'support' while getting used to the camera.

Andre du Plessis Hi Anja. This was taken probably 10mins after I stopped at this cottage and introduced myself. This was actually a test shot to assess the light and to 'break the ice', so to speak. So glad that it saw publication, for I like it's simplicity. Thanks...Andre
