Joseph Dannels  No real trick, just a 30 sec exposure and wait for a hole in the clouds. On the other side of the hill is a building giving the tree some backlight. Thank you for the comment.

Laurits Monty  Very nice... but how could you avoid the stars turning in to stripes??

Joseph Dannels  Especially at wide angles, this was shot at 10mm with a Nikon D50, I find you can shoot up to a minute before you notice star trails, especially at web sizes. At full size or larger prints you would notice a slight movement. This gave time for clouds which to show motion but keep the stars still. Thanks for the comment.
