Takraw

Takraw is a popular sport in South-East Asia. It is played with a small rattan ball and can perhaps best be described as kick volleyball. Usually it is played 3 against 3. It is quite spectacular.

I should be the photographer who took this picture. this is the traditional sport from my homeland. you shot it very well done. right speed and apperture. seems you traveled so lot.

KoPi Until recently I lived in bangkok Sebastian. Close to home they were always playing takraw on Sundays.

Sebastian Kisworo I'll show you someday when they play with traditional uniform. This sport came from Indonesia, exactly my hometown in Sumatera. But not easy to find where they play since it's not as popular as soccer. So I have to go to vilages. They only do it for ceremony.
Ashame to see from you but I am proud of it, the sport and your work.

surprised to hear that. In thailand it is still quite popular. In Bangkok I saw it being played in several places. But I always went back to this place because the players were quite good, and because 50 meters further they were always training Muay Thai.

I know the sport and like you mentioned it's really spectacular.
I think the image is superb.Marvelous job you did on freezing the action.
The facial expressions are also great.
Awesome work!

Koen Pieters surprise how many actually know ta-kraw. I like to freeze those smashes. It gives me some time to look at the action, which in reality can be very explosive and short. I a sense the photos really show the spectacular nature of their exploits better than watching it in real time does (I think)

Lovely image. Good catch. The sport resembles footballtennis where my daughters recently participated in the World Cup in Czech Republic.
