Sadhu Shivaji Bush :-)
I met this Sadhu in front of Hawa Mahal in Jaipur.
He is a master in making grimaces.
Some users in other communities mentioned his similarity to George W. Bush ;-).

Lovely portrait Helmut.. Some of these guys are very funny and I met one that was the most intelligent guy I've ever met. The way he flipped an argument on your face was incredible.
Helmut Schadt  Prateek thanks a lot.
During my travels in India and Nepal I'm always fascinated by the different types of Sadhus and eager to meet them and if possible to make a photograph:-)

Namaste,
Helmut
I can see the resemblance..:O) This man however has much better looks! :O)) Love it!

Helmut Schadt  Elisabeth thank you.
Next time I meet him I will tell him how good he looking.
But I won't report your words to Mr. Bush :-)
Max 3 years ago
I am captivated by his caricature - but he does not make me think of GWB, in my opinion a dumb connection. In India there is the goddess who sticks her tongue out and holds decapitated heads, she has many arms and this wild expression. You probably remember her name. I did vote for the picture in screening. ;o)-max-
Prateek Dubey  Hello Max, the goddess you mentioned is the goddess Kali. An interesting character.Represents the 'other' side of time. Google it and you'll be rewarded with some entertaining points of view. Cheers..
Max  No need for google, she looks just like my wife, wonderful and gentle personality ;o) If I remember correctly Kali is more popular in the eastern part of India, this guy I think is not a local Rajastani - my unqualified guess would be that he is from Bihar, do you know? ;o)-max-
Prateek Dubey  Max! you're so funny. And mean. And very well informed I must say...Just hoping you don't end up like shiva, under your wife when she wants to destroy the world..
Helmut Schadt  Max, thanks for your comment.
Thanks also to Prateek for his explanation about Kali.
And my compliments to Max for having such a wonderful wife:-):

From where this Sadhu originated I actually don't know.
They normally wandering around India and Nepal, mostly from one holy place to the next.
Yes, Kali is more popular in East India, especially in Kolkata (former Calcutta).
Its early name Kalighat derives from the goddess Kali.
But that this Sadhu is stretching out his tongue has nothing to do with Kali.
It was only one of his many grimaces;-):

Namaste,
Helmut

Prateek Dubey  Hello Helmut, are you an anthropologist? You seem to know quite a lot about India...
Helmut Schadt  Hello Prateek, I never did really study anthropology, I used to be an electrical engineer.
What I know about India just comes from my interest in your fascinating country and my several travels there since back to 1966.
Compared to the knowledge of a anthropologist I consider mine only basic :-)
