Going to Yellowstone in the winter and freezing is the price one has to pay for a great shot like this. How far were you from this guy?
Doug Roane  Thanks! I was about 30 feet from him - you would never want to get this close on foot!

Doug, Being a high-altitude westerner myself, I am really enjoying your winter shots. The snow remaining on the Bison's coat really makes this work well.
Doug Roane  Thank you Brake - glad you like it!

And you did it! Good! It's a very intimate moment between the buffalo and you, and with the extra space around, an excellent shot. I wish I could see buffaloes one day...
Doug Roane  Thank you, Ines - it was kind of an intense moment!

I don't know whether to be encouraged or disappointed seeing this here. I stood on the fence in screening as I thought the crop was too tight & then not tight enough. I imagine all of the dangers & am amazed you got your heart beat under control. In reality I am happy you got it past screening/critique since this sort of reinforces the process since Bert got an image turned over posted in critique & then got it published. Serves as a message of hope to die hard cynics like me! Well done.
Doug Roane  Thank you Gerard. I'm glad I was able to go back to the original and at least open up some space around it compared to what you saw in screening, and toned down some of the sharpening

beautiful detail. i loved this in the screening.
the detail on the buffalo's fur is incredible. i wish we had more of these magnificent beasts roaming the wilds. such a shame that they were killed off and that people are still killing them.
i could go on and on... those are the thoughts i have seeing this image. wanted to share at least a snippet of them. :)
Doug Roane  Thank you Zoe - they are incredible creatures
