A family group meander below the slopes of Africa's highest mountain. Cattle Egrets can be seen catching a ride.

Dedicated to Helen Suzman who died today (1/1/09) and Miriam Makeba who died a few weeks ago, both anti-apartheid heroines.

hello stephen, what a fabulous image. i did a search for 'kilimanjaro'. it's 'my mountain' you see :) - well not exactly, i just live on it, but on the other side. this is from amboseli i think? i'm on the tanzania side, up near the park boundary at the mweka gate. sadly the snow is lessening year by year, but it's still the most spectacular thing to wake up to :). it's also my most favourite place to be :)

I saw Miriam Makeba with Ladysmith Black Mambazo open for Paul Simon in Montreal, she had just broken her leg and performed from a wheel chair rather than not perform. She had a great effect on me as did LBM, she was a giant to be sure.

Breathtaking image and the title is perfect.

Stephen Edds You are blessed to have seen her Tracy. I last saw LBM in Cape Town. Yes we have lost two icons of Africa this year.
