at the counter
Evening shot, made at a small cafe in Montana (USA). This man was sitting on a stool at the counter; he had a bright red goatee that just glowed with backlighting, and seemed the perfect balance for the red Coke signs above the refrigerator by the door.

I like "on the spot" photography - I classify myself as an "opportunistic" photographer i.e. Taking pictures on the spot that happen to take my fancy.

I wish I had taken this picture. The atmosphere of the place is only strengthened by the Coke signs. There's enough in shadow, enough visible to really make this a special one. I wish I were there!

This is so wonderful. I wish I was there . . . I lived in Montana for 8 months, and still drive up and visit multiple times each year . . . my favorite part is driving up and stopping at cafes like this one along the way. You totally captured it.
Ursula I Abresch  Thank you, Robert! I like stopping at these cafes too, they (not always, but often) have a lot of character.

For me this image represents the essence of America. And i havent even been there. But if i ever come i would love to visit this place. So much atmosphere!
Ursula I Abresch  Thank you, Jesper. It is a bit the essence of America, being that I'm not originally from North America, it strikes me a bit that way too. Thanks again!

I love the atmosphere with that backlight. I used to have such a long goatee too, but now I'm glad that I'm not a candidate for your pair of scissors anymore:-)
Ursula I Abresch  Oh, don't worry. I threaten, but don't act. My scissors aren't sharp enough. Thank you :)

The light is perfect!

Best wishes
Ursula I Abresch  Thank you, Anna. Nothing beats evening light (well, maybe early morning light does sometimes, but ...)
Yes, great light and wonderful composition!
Ursula I Abresch  Thank you, Helmut!
This is great-You captured the place perfectly and w/out much detail. That is a great achievement.
Coming from a background of a painter you learn to make each and every brush stroke count- less is more. Details are not important- it is the feeling that matters. This is a perfect example of pure, great photography.
Ursula I Abresch  Thank you, Angela, very much!!! :)

where in Montana, Ursula? Living in Montana, I can vouch that you indeed captured the authentic small town western spirit in this - so typical a scene! Nice work.
Ursula I Abresch  Doug, thank you. I believe the town was called Ennis. Not entirely sure though. We were driving back out of Yellowstone (on the backside) on 287 towards I90 and on to Butte. It was a very small town, "bump on the road" as they say, but there were a number of them, and I can't remember where exactly this cafe was. They had pretty good food though.

This one is really most impressive. A pleasure to look at.
Ursula I Abresch  Thank you, K-Peter, I'm glad you like it. :) Danke!
Give me a pair of scissors to cut his goatee off. Of course after taking some pictures. It works perfectly with the light, but i have to cut it off anyway, can't stand goatees specially the long ones :-))))

Also, a very nice capture.
Ursula I Abresch  Ha! Funny you should say that! I felt like the same, those long goatees bother me, and this one, even though it looked great, was a prime candidate for my scissors if I'd have had them at hand. Although I'm not sure I would have dared in reality. :)

Thank you, Kaveh!

I spent a few months there years ago...you've captured how it is in my memory, Ursula.
I'd love to see the other photos :-)
Thanks for putting me onto Lydia Panas - thoroughly enjoyed her images and keep returning for another look.
Ursula I Abresch  Thank you, Nic. I wonder if someone else put you on to Lydia Panas, because I didn't know her work until you mentioned it here. But I'm glad you did, like you said, it's worth exploring. :)

Good to see one of yours Ursula, I think you've captured the "American" feeling perfectly here.
Ursula I Abresch  You'll have to come to America and see for yourself if I'm right :) Thank you, Ralf.

Happy to see it here, one of my favorites! Excellent one, Ursula, great work!
all the best

Ursula I Abresch  Thank you so much, Codrin! You make my heart sing. One of these days I'll get up the nerve to send some of the other images that I like a lot but feel so very unsure over (like the train in the rain) to screening. Thank you again for everything.
Codrin Lupei  What can I say? I just hope to see them here, one day...I'll keep my fingers crossed, don't know when :-) but I'll do it! And if they'll not be here I'll love them anyway!
take care
Codrin
