Khumjung (1): Sherpa Kitchen
I was returning from the trek to the Nepal Basecamp of Everest and had taken a different way back. At a junction I talked with my Nepali friend Ang Phurba about Khumjung, the small town in the hills. Ang Phurba said that a friend of his father lived there and that we could visit him.

While we continued through the small town we were invited it by some other friends for some nice cups of milk-tea and hot potatoes, delicious after a week of hard trekking. Only then Ang Furba told me that the man we were going to find was one of the kitchen boys in Tenzing Norgay & Hillary's 1953 Everest expedition.

We found the house, but the former kitchenboy Ang Temba had turned into a grumpy alcoholic. He was lying on a couch and looked in pain. He asked for medicine and said he was ill, but when I came closer, I immediately smelled the strong scent of Chang, the local strong brew.

I gave him some ibuprofen against his hangover and he became a bit friendlier, but did not wanted to get photographed. Then I noticed his kitchen in this wonderful natural light, a worthy replacement with more life than its owner...
