Grasping for Life
I set up my gear about 1 hour before sunset and started looking for angles and views that I thought would convey how intrepid this locale really was. This small rocky peninsula was being battered by 15 ft. waves on both sides of me while I was taking this picture. I stayed till after dark and that's when my imagination got the better of me... the dark jungle behind me seemed like something was moving in it, and I kept hearing shuffling noises and branches breaking. I was alone, but maybe not! A few hundred yards from this spot there was an ancient sacrificial table where King Kamehameha would sacrifice victims to the gods to appease them, and it really felt eerie and spooky around this beach. I am glad I came away with at least a few good pictures.

I like the effect the roots have in the foreground "anchoring" the tree against the onslaught of the sea.
Lovely monochrome.

Wow Chris...I really like this! Your description of the capture shows in the intensity of the waves and the feeling of the light! Beautiful and scary at the same time!
