I don't know how I missed this very special photograph of yours Gerry. This man seems so oblivious to anything, and in such deep thought, even at this distance. However, those vertical lines, the differentiation in textures and colour - those elements that are arranged in the direction of this journey of his ...... those lines really work together with the subject in this image to strengthen your story, and make this a truly remarkable study.
gerard sexton  Hey Andre very much appreciate that you discovered this & share the sentiments I had about the image. There are so many factors in this that when I saw the photo unfolding I had to run along the bridge to capture it. The fact the tide was out & that the water mark was where it was at that time the flat even light the clothing of the unknown gentleman. The textures the hard pebbles the soft silky water the contrast & the solitude of the man doing what so many of us do just walking looking down at the beach searching for something or just searching our souls. This will remain a favourite of mine for all those reasons. As I said its almost as if its a self portrait except I still have most of my hair!

Amazing outcome from the use of different shades of almost one color. Maybe it is the clarity, but what I see here are all the individual elements..and then some. I would have to study this photo and observe it for a long time to understand its impact on me. I have to say this is is my favorite in your One X publications...I LOVE IT. :) Phyllis
gerard sexton  Thanks Phyllis it is a simple motif & one that I saw from a distance I remember running along the bridge to get the shot. I was gifted (well everythings a gift if you see it that way) with very flat diffused light which helped give this overall tonal range I doubt had he got a black jacket it would have worked quite so well. Thanks for the feedback I so encouraged when people take the time to comment in such a way on my work. Gerard.

Gerard,

My own curiosity caused me to open up the thumbnail.

Who would think that one could make such a stunning picture out of so few elements as well as such a "monochromatic" tone.

Lovely!

Colmar
gerard sexton  Thank you Colmar for such wonderful words.
Colmar Wocke  gerard,

Said this to you before - it came up again on the random pictures again - I like it so much.

Go well.

I must admit I am a bit mystified by OE's fascination with the solitary figure in the landscape genre, but this photo takes this theme to a completely different level. Simply stunning, the perspective which combined with the movement in the water makes me dizzy, the monochromatic tone, the contrasting texture of the water and the rocks.
gerard sexton  ...and for me this so typical of human behaviour how is it where ever there is a beach men & women wonder head down all looking for treasure! i love doing the same & on these beaches only evident at low tide you can read history amongst the stones are animal bones broken clay pipes weather worn house bricks & driftwood...each object has a story. fascinating!

all my life i struggled to receive praise i viewed it with suspicion & almost always rejected it. with age comes wisdom & i have learnt to unlearn my past. i am sincerely honoured that you have acknowledged my work in this way. it means a lot to me now!

Fantastic textures, great image. It's nice with the human figure and it could even work without it as well...

love how you worked on the colours Gerry. the photograph reminds me a bit of Yann Arthus-Bertrand, in the sense that it shows some of those wonderfull patterns that lay beneath our feet.
gerard sexton  koen since you are the first to respond i will give you the low down. this is taken at low(ish) tide from the millennium bridge that transports people from the north to the south bank of the thames from st pauls to the tate modern. it was a bland day the light drab & indifferent but as i traversed the bridge i caught sight of the man well i ran & this is the result. no photoshop only lightroom i played with the presets & curves in my limited fashion & adjusted the colours to try & get the best of the texture & smoothness of the ebbing river. do you know i am so happy this has been selected! i really loved it as it was a "scoop" for me the river is only in this state very rarely coincident with my visits the man was well that little bit of good fortune but hey don't we make our luck. i really appreciate your comments thank you. no apologies for the mass of information i want you to know!
