its exactly the type of shot i want to create actually... might have to pick you brain one day... :)
King Douglas  This effect is pretty well described, I think, in my image titled "Pretty in Pink." However, I'm happy to share any information or be of help if I can. Thanks again.

It s very beautiful, is it possible to shoot it whithout cutting the material at right, or maybe it s not possible ?? The goal would be to have a global compo with only black fade around the dancer and her move. Love it anyway.
King Douglas  Thanks very much, Gilles.

Yes, this could have been done as you suggest. However, I've created such images and it is my opinion that having the dancer fully contained in black would add very little to the final shot.

Keep in mind that the space requirements for a shot like this...in this case a 30-foot-wide, 14-foot high cyclorama painted black...and the immense amount of light required (both tungsten and electronic flash), also play a big role in the decisions regarding how to execute the shot and what can be included or must be excluded.

Gilles Bonugli  I understand, thanks for your explanation.

Looking through your portfolio, I'm impressed! This is excellent photography!
King Douglas  Thank you, Lars. If I may return the compliment, your portfolio is quite exquisite. I haven't often had to risk my life to take a photo...although I will admit to having been in some risky situations, I don't make a habit of it. :>)
Lars Grepstad  Oh, I'm so careful!
Have to admit, I have been close.. But not not when shooting the photos shown on OE. Shooting kayaking showed to be dangerous. I might post some shots, or the last one before that blurred blue mess on the next frame..

Wow, teach us how to use the flash King!
King Douglas  Thanks very much, Ivar. I take your comment to be rhetorical...you don't really want or need to use flash, do you?

Ivar Smith-Nilsen  I am horrible with the flash, to be honest - I've never done my homework at this area and I find it difficult to preview the result. At my last published photo I tried some shots with flash and the result was horrible, colors lost theis charm totally, and I put it in the bag again. Now, with the low cost of DSLR photography, one can of course repeat endlessly until you learn how to do it, but it takes time..However, I love to see photoart that is successfull using this tool.
King Douglas  This setup used many, very powerful flash units with nothing on the camera. I prefer natural or existing light in my art photography.

wow! what you can do with lights and a camera - amazing!!!
King Douglas  Thanks again, Nicole....you left out dancer, as in "lights and a camera and a dancer." :>)
Nicole Goggins  oh yes and dancer - but that does without saying...

Beautiful capture!
King Douglas  Thanks, Kathleen.
Wow, King. You need to teach me this. This is amazing!
King Douglas  Thanks, Angela...glad you like it. All you need, besides patience, lots of powerful tungsten spotlights, numerous and costly electronic flash units, a camera with a "B" setting and a big, wide cyclorama painted black, is a talented dancer.

Kids, don't try this at home.
Angela Bacon-Kidwell  I can do that! :)
King Douglas  Of course you can! You can do anything you set you mind to.
