Outside, looking in
Taken from the cabin of a ship. I decided to include the cap on left hand side. It adds to the balance in the photo I hope, creating a diagonal with the child in the window.

Not seen this one before Bert, lovely image. I agree that the cap balances the picture. I want to keep looking into this, back to the windows behind too. I also like the dark where the hand and head meet the window. You just keep producing them. Andy
HenriAntoine  Thanks Andy, good to see you here.

I loved this in screening and voted for it. At first I thought maybe a bit more of the hat as it was the cherry on the cake for me. But then I realised that I knew exactly what it was at first glance. So more was not needed.
In short- A brilliant piece.
:)
HenriAntoine  thanks aicardi. The hat is the big issue here, nice to see that the popular vote goes in favor in it. Your explanation as top why it works is revealing. It's a very universal object, everybody knows it at first glance.

Bert, thanks for directing me here, the quality of work is fantastic, and displayed so classily! Makes other places look very messy indeed... I have submitted a photo, I hope it gets in.

The screeners like the hat! I'm still undecided, although I now think something does need to be there , and I guess a hat is as good as anything. It remains a unique image, with a good dose of humour and weirdness.... and the way she is staring straight down your lens is magical.

Your work looks good here, I just hope mine's good enough...

HenriAntoine  Hi Steve, welcome on here! I am sure that much of your work will appear on here very soon. I remember those wonderful images taken from a bridge or something with people walking/running in very low contarsty light. They would be perfect I think, as would some of the into the light images. Thanks for your thoughts on the photo. Good to see that one from the new cam got accepted. Cheers, Bert

If you cropped the hat off, this would be a square format which would not be as interesting as you have here. Good job of leaving the hat; this image is like a picture within a picture. Well done!!
HenriAntoine  thank you Eddie, I was afraid people would object to the hat and in screening 'disturbing object' had 50plus % so I thought it would not make it. Thanks for your comment. I agree!

Interesting idea to keep the hat! I would have cropped it out without thinking about it, but your solution creates a much stronger shot.
HenriAntoine  thanks, yes, the cap was the issue. Leave the scene as is of get rid of the cap? I left it there bcause I liked it and am glad to see that some agree. Cheers
Great job with the hat! Wonderful image. Congrats.
HenriAntoine  thanks angela, glad you like it, the cap especially.

surprise & i guess delighted i was not sure this would make it & though i liked it i was not sure of the dark smudges on the window pain. but i think it's endearing quality is the expression on the face & the skillful way you have chosen to place it in the frame.
HenriAntoine  Hi Gerry, yes, I am a bit surprised too. I like it a lot but I would, wouldn't I? I don't construct photos and don't leave out what is considered ugly, but try to record life rather unedited. Glad that there is room for that on here. The dark smudges are unavoidable: because it was rather dark inside, they couldn't be lighter. Actually, I like that about this photo: it learns us something about reflected light.
