I long to live by the sea again, as I did when I was young. Your beautiful photos of places where the ocean meets the shore take me back to a precious time.
Mal Smart  lovely comment King. Where did you live as a child? mal
King Douglas  I lived in southern California near the Palos Verdes peninsula, south of Los Angeles. The waves have crashed against the rocks there since time began.

Shakespeare would have appreciated this image:

64
When I have seen by Time's fell hand defaced
The rich proud cost of outworn buried age,
When sometime lofty towers I see down razed,
And brass eternal slave to mortal rage;
When I have seen the hungry ocean gain
Advantage on the kingdom of the shore,
And the firm soil win of the wat'ry main,
Increasing store with loss, and loss with store;
When I have seen such interchange of state,
Or state itself confounded to decay,
Ruin hath taught me thus to ruminate:
That Time will come and take my love away.
This thought is as a death which cannot choose
But weep to have that which it fears to lose.

...or Robert Frost

Once by the Pacific

The shattered water made a misty din.
Great waves looked over others coming in,
And thought of doing something to the shore
That water never did to land before.
The clouds were low and hairy in the skies,
Like locks blown forward in the gleam of eyes.
You could not tell, and yet it looked as if
The shore was lucky in being backed by cliff,
The cliff in being backed by continent;
It looked as if a night of dark intent
Was coming, and not only a night, an age.
Someone had better be prepared for rage.
There would be more than ocean-water broken
Before God's last 'Put out the Light' was spoken.
Mal Smart  fantastic quotes King, thank you for taking the time to make them.

I have a slight surreal feeling that you have mentioned Robert Frost. I have some friends who live in Tiverton (Devon). On my last visit to see them which was about 4 years ago, if memory serves me correctly, they were telling me of famous descendents from the area (my friends are the literary types with book cases bulging at the seems with classic poetry). They told me of Robert Frost and his father travelling from Tiverton to the states.

beautiful words King. mal

Great shot Mal, love the tones and tranquility of the it, even though it's a rather rough sea. What really make me like the image and make it stand out is that faint radial pattern in the sky. Draws you right into the picture...
/Thomas
Mal Smart  the funny thing about the shot is - that I like the sky detail more than the sea, Thank you for seeing this Thomas. mal
Thomas Ljungberg  IMO the sky is the shot here. It's not only that radial pattern, it's something with those highlight tones. It really looks shining, radiant. Hard to put in words. Should do wonders as a large print I guess.
/Thomas
Mal Smart  you are very perceptive Thomas. I have not printed this, so do not know how it looks. Thank you for your encouraging words. all the very best. mal

Mal Smart  a small fishing port on the north east coast of England called Skinningrove Lucian. It used to be a thriving busy place 50 years ago but larger ports in the area have caused this place to virtually disappear. cheers. mal
