If all artistic accidents would be as yours, people would be pouring into Art Museums as they do on footbal stadiums.

Hats off,

Catalin
King Douglas  Thank you, Catalin. I'm sorry I overlooked your comment when you posted it 2 months ago.
Catalin Parau  You needn't worry about a thing Douglas :)

It is said the evolution works on its great creations similar way, with series of small 'accidents'... ;)
I think the result of yours is magnificent!
Real gem.
King Douglas  Thank you, Milla.

What a great "accident", King.
Really an excellent result.
King Douglas  Rui...I apologize for not responding to your comment from one year ago. I guess I overlooked it. Yes, this was one of those pleasant surprises discovered after I developed the film.

Thanks for much for taking the time to comment and for your kind words.

Beautiful movement and expression in this King!
I am waiting for my Hasselblad and this kind of work with the multiple exposure, accident or not is really inspiring!
All the best Anne Lene
King Douglas  I wish you best of luck and much fun with your Hasselblad. Do you know what kind of film you will be working with?...or are you also purchasing the digital back?...well, some people have more money than they know what to do with. :>)

Thanks for the kind words,
King
Anne Lene Baanrud  No digital back for me, just the pure fun of working with 120 film and good old fashioned dark room. And i got it cheap too, only 900 bucks, i can hardly wait! :)

What weird and wonderful trickery is this Mr Douglas? Had my mind doing somersaults on first viewing it. The lighting is exquisite, but then again I've come to expect nothing less. I'm curious though, was this scanned with your new toy (V750) or 'professionally' done? The details are remarkable.
King Douglas  This was professionally scanned before I bought my new V750P. It will be a good test to compare the two scans.
Thanks, Song Yao.
Song Yao  Oh absolutely! I'd love to know the results.
accidents are the best!
King Douglas  Angela...your comment speaks to one of the concepts I had the most trouble with in art school, illustrated by this story.

I was working on a wet-chemical darkroom print using an usual toning technique suggested by the instructor in a design class. The assignment was due the next morning. The final result of my efforts was that only the "X" shape from the bottom of the developing tray was left visible on the paper...the rest of the image being bleached away. There was nothing to do but post my project on the board, from original to "X". I got one of my most favorable critical reviews for that "X". My colleagues couldn't get enough of it.

At Southern Methodist University, the art school ethos was that if the artist knows what the finished work will look like when she begins, then the result is not art. I can appreciate the notion, yet I have this hard-won ability to "see" what a print will look like before I click the shutter and I'm reluctant to give it up. Now I'm open to happy accidents like this image, at any point in the creative process, and I guess that's the real point--not to get stuck in our preconceptions.

Would you agree?

Thanks for your comment.
Angela Bacon-Kidwell  I totally agree with you. I rarely work with a final picture in my mind of how it should look. I know the feeling I want and I put trust in my ability to make it happen. I like the unknown and happy accidents are always more important to me. Some would disagree but that is what compells me to create art. Thanks!

I wish my non-accidents would be half as amazing Michael ;-)
King Douglas  The "amazing" factor in your portfolio is quite substantial as it is.
Thanks.

Elisabeth
King Douglas  Thank you, Elisabeth. I got a number of good photos of this dancer, a friend of mine, on that day. My "Mummy" photo is this same fellow.

Great capture King, even if it was a mistake. There is a very nice movement and flow in the picture and his expression(s) are very strong. Great lighting (as usual).
/Thomas
King Douglas  Thank you, Thomas, for the high praise. You know this is the same fellow as in the "mummuy" photo. I think they were taken in the same session.

oh yes, i like this one.
excellent lighting.

his expression on the two exposures are somewhat opposite to eachother, one being peaceful and to terms with a situation, the other being dramatic, as if something is happening either physically or mentally with the person.
The lighting is also more-dramatic-on-the-dramatic-expression(phey!) which adds to the impact of the image for me.

Hope that made sense, it's 06:00 in the morning over here in Norway :)

All in all, excellent work, accidental or not.

Martin
King Douglas  Martin,
You pointed out one of the things that compelled me to use this image on my website...the contrast between the two very similar and consecutive poses.
Thanks very much for your early morning comment. :>)

beautiful idea and execution
Always F.
King Douglas  It was an idea that was accidentally repeated. This is a double exposure, which can happen with a Hasselblad if one is not paying adequate attention. Of course, it can happen on purpose, too. One of the nice things about that camera.
Thanks, Fulvio.
