Daria,

The most stunning pictures are always ones where the compositional elements are few, to my mind.

You have this here, together with strong graphical lines, nice light, texture and a sense of wonderment - what is the cat looking at.

Lovely picture!

Colmar

I guess I was lucky to catch my cat still with a nice sunset light :)

Very nice Daria! I'm happy to see you posting some of your "other stuff" haha ;-)
Daria Endresen  Thank you, Scott!
This was on a very thin thread - I've got almost all possible rejection reasons in screening and was sure it wouldn't make it.. but here it is :)) glad to know that you like the "other stuff" as well ;)
Scott Crouse  Not much of yours that I don't like, you've got a heck of an eye. Hey, even with the reject reasons at least your stuff is making it through, my last 2 or 3 haven't made it at all ;-( But, we keep trying.
Daria Endresen  Not much, eh? so that means that there is some of my stuff you don't like? got you! ;)).. well, a couple of my images have been rejected too recently, so you're not alone.. I hope next time you'll make it, I know you've got lost of brilliant captures :)
Andrew Stewart 4 years ago
Well done! it got through and you didn't need to change anything :-) As I said before, I like the light in this.
Daria Endresen  I am very delighted it got published, Andrew :) thank you very much for your support, both in critique, screening and here :))

Very nicely done! Love the tonality you achieved in this one!
Great (as usual) ;))
Daria Endresen  Thanks a lot, Michael :)
Yes, it actually appears that I sometimes shoot quite usual everyday scenes ;) It might seem a bit pale and ordinary in comparison to my wierd selfportraits, so I'm twice as glad that it attracted your attention :)

Daria Endresen  Thank you so much, Angela!
It was my first experiment with selective toning, very happy that you liked the result as well :))
King Douglas 4 years ago
Ta-Dah! And there it is. As you know, I've studied this photo. I'm not so sure that the HDR is as effective in this particular situation as it could be, or even necessary to the success of this image. It's a very nice photo, though, in my opinion.
Daria Endresen  Thank you, King!
I think HDR gives very nice tones to b/w images which I don't know how to get with a usual postprocessing. But maybe you're right - it's not that important particularly here.
I'm very glad you like it - I know it's so different from my usual selfportraits! fun to try something esle and get (I hope) more or less decent results ;)
King Douglas  Daria,
This image reminds me of the tones we used to get when printing color negative film in b/w. The process called for b/w chemistry, but using a special paper. In addition, we couldn't use the common safelight because the paper, of necessity, had to be sensitive to red (magenta, yellow, orange, etc.)--we we developed the print in the dark using only a timer.

The payoff was a very long tonal scale, sometimes difficult to achieve with straight b/w film, but which sometimes also looked a bit flat, like this image does to my eye.

And, by the way, your self-portraiture has inspired me to create a new one, myself. What's that I hear? Derisive laughter from the male contingent (young turks all) at OE.
Daria Endresen  Sounds really interesting. I must confess I am completely unfamiliar with any old non-digital techniques. My father used to have a darkroom and he was very passionate about photography for quite a long time, but I was too small, so I hadrly remember anything..

I would love to see your self-portrait :) although I've already had a chance to "meet" with you on one of the Mark's shots, I am really curious about how you'd present yourself in your own way ;)
Fulvio Pellegrini 4 years ago
beautiful composition. Calm and reflection
F.
Daria Endresen  Thank you, Fulvio!
I was a bit worried about the composition here, nice to know that it works ok :)
Ursula I Abresch 4 years ago
Pretty cool! You could call it, "Pitchfork and the Cat With No Tail" :)
Daria Endresen  Thank you very much, Ursula!
I'm so happy it's published :)).. great title suggestion ;) - she's actually got a huge thick tale, can't understand how she managed to hide it :))
Deborah Fort  I think her tail can be seen in the long fuzzy shadow, yes? Very thick and fluffy! A gorgeous shot - I very much like the composition, and the toning is amazing.
Daria Endresen  Your guess is correct :)
Thank you very much for this warming comment, Deborah :))
