Oops!
The guy with the camera is Mark Kitaoka, who is yakking on his cell phone with Tracy Martin while taking my picture. He is totally unaware of the guy standing next to him (who I think is Vernon Trent, but I'm not sure).

Now, that's what I call Street energy. Wonderful.
King Douglas  Thanks, Steve. Note that this was posted not under street but humor. I paid the guy to shoot Mark the finger.

Vernomous ! :)
King Douglas  Yes...you bet! Thanks, Carlos.

Classic!
King Douglas  Thanks, gerard...but classic what?
gerard sexton  ...classic is an expression commonly adopted in the UK for something which is timeless out of a mould in a vein funny. My shorthand mind is overtaking my longhand fingers!
Balazs Pataki 2 years ago
That's hilarious. And Vernon looks priceless :)
King Douglas  Thanks, Balazs...I'm sure you know that the guy shooting the finger is *not* Vernon Trent.
Balazs Pataki  Hmm. Maybe he's Kilgore Trout, then?
King Douglas  Ah, Kilgore Trout...you may be right. What was Vonnegut's phrase, "Full spread eagle"?...or something like that.
Willem de Vlaming 2 years ago
Great!!!
King Douglas  Thanks, Willem. You know I paid the guy $1 to shoot the finger to the photographer, so this isn't a street photo.
Willem de Vlaming  LOL ... I won't tell anybody

Oh my.... I'm really laughing seeing this, so great :)
King Douglas  Thanks, Sven...I'm happy to have made you smile.

Now that is funny.....I love Vern's "smile".
King Douglas  Thanks, Jennifer.

In case you don't know, the "gesture" guy isn't the esteemed OE photographer Vernon Trent:

My comment was intended to tease both Mark Kitaoka and Vernon Trent at the same time. Vernon hasn't taken the bait, but Mark retaliated:

I'm still waiting on that check.

Just hilarious, I keep coming back to this! "Vernon's" expression is priceless!
King Douglas  Hey, Ralf...I'm very pleased that you would come back for a second viewing. I'm thinking of uploading an "improved" version of this, with the background just a bit more out of focus.
Thanks!

A Street Shot, indeed.
An excellent one.
King Douglas  Thank you, Rui. I hope you know from the preceding comments that I paid this guy to do that to Mark.

This image is strangely familiar?? Seen is in some other week I suppose...
Liked it then, doesn't seem to have lost much appeal here.
King Douglas  Hey, Clyde,
Just trying to start a little tussle with Mark, who seems to be some kind of demi-god around OE.
Thanks!

Lol. I see Vernon lost some weight!...;)))

Nice too great irony

King Douglas  Irony...that's it, exactly. Thank you for noticing.

Yes yes yes, I am the one distracting Mark, my Mark now, while you are paying someone to flip him off while he multi-tasks talking and shooting. I can say with some authority that the flipper is far too small to be Vernon and far too happy to be Mal(it must have something to do with the CA weather). :)))

King Douglas  I feel uncertain to say this, but I think you have it in you to be very distracting. I'm mean that in the nicest way.

Haha, I remember that one, and am still loving it!
King Douglas  Alexandre,

Yes, from WeeklyShot. I fear that I'm going to regret posting this.
Alexandre Buisse  Nah, I'm sure you'll be fine. Mark would already have kicked your ass a long time ago if he minded :)

:-) Excellent! Reading the whole story, I know that you have a great sense of humor! Thanks for sharing this moment! :-)
all the best
Codrin
King Douglas  Thank you, Codrin. Yes, I have a sense of humor and I would like to establish that early in my participation here. Mark is one of my favorite targets because
1) I think he is a genius, but he is only human, after all
2) Mark is very competitive, and when I challenge him (in the right way) he usually responds
3) He can take it

Hehe, well captured and very funny :)
Congratulations!
King Douglas  Thank you, Michael. I'm glad you enjoyed it.

LOL! What a catch! That "Vernon" needs to watch his body language! ;)
King Douglas  Thanks, Emily--I'm glad you found this to be funny.
Ha! Ha! very funny. So many stories going on in this image.
King Douglas  Now I know you have a sense of humor. That's a relief. My hunch was that you are a very serious woman. Hey, I dreamed last night that you came to Dallas for a visit. The entire day you were here, the skies were cloudy, the air was heavy, wind would hit my face in sudden gusts, all the new spring leaves fell suddenly to the ground--leaving the trees winterlike again, all the animals were exchanging furtive glances and every surface texture was as granular as sand. Cool dream.
Angela Bacon-Kidwell  Wow! If I could express myself verbally like you do I would be a writer. Such impactful words and I felt I was living your dream. Very touching. Thank you!
King Douglas  Just trying to express the images your work evokes in my dreams...and I really did have the dream.

I think this is just great. The background story lifts the shot to a highr level!
/Thomas
King Douglas  Thomas, I wasn't sure this would get published, but I was pretty sure many OE photographers would get a laugh out of it. That's why a put it in the Humor category. I guess it could be put in the "I paid money for this shot" category as well.
Thomas Ljungberg  I see what you meen picturewise (it's a great shot but maybe not ordinary OE-style) but it did make me laugh. I really begin to like your humor...
/Thomas
King Douglas  Thomas. Thank you again. I don't take myself to seriously, although I take photography very seriously, indeed.

King Douglas  So he's "our Mark"? He is a treasure, but I am an iconoclast. When we get together, the weather becomes turbulent.

Great capture and very funny too!

King Douglas  For you street photographers out there, I paid this guy $1 to stand next to Mark and express himself. As I told Mark, I'm too old to stand around with a camera in my hand and wait for things to happen.

I sent this to Mark with the caption, "Mark Kitaoka, seeking candid images by using a long lens, remains unobservedby the locals" along with this: "Did you know the guy was standing there shooting you the finger? Did you know that I *paid* the guy to stand next to you and shoot you the finger? The small differences in our approaches to photography."

Mark replied: "Well, I thought that you simply Photoshopped the guy there. You didn't? You actually paid him to do that? Inquiring minds want to know. And if in fact you did pay him, that's funny."
Ulf Börjesson  The thing that bothers me the most is not the one dollar but the canon equipment...;) Nevertheless a great moment!
Mark Kitaoka  You Nikonians are such a crass crowd! ;-)
Ulf Börjesson  Just changed from Canon so I'm allowed to swear in church ;)
King Douglas  I am not a Nikonian. I am a generic point-and-shootian. If I had my choice, I'd be shooting a Sinar P3 view camera a digital back.
King Douglas  Ulf, of course you mean Mark's Canon equipment. This was shot with a Nikon. By the way, I offered the guy $5, but he took one look at Mark and said he'd do it for a buck.
Ulf Börjesson  That guy must be a sport.
Mark Kitaoka  My beloved Rebel XT is now in the very capable hands of Thelma Blizzard of http://www.blizzart.org. That XT was what started me on this whole incredible journey.
King Douglas  Thanks, Ulf.
