Echinacea Before
Thanks to the mild winter here in Charleston, SC, our garden began to bloom in March. Happily, my new Nikon D80 arrived just in time to capture some of the "before" colors of flowers. This was taken with a Nikkor 28-105mm f/3.5-4.5 D lens on Macro setting.

did you used a closeup filter? around the focus point there´s a bit distortion.
Jennifer Hoel  No, no filter. Thanks for looking.

Sometimes photographs of flowers look just like that - photographs of flowers. Other times they have a strange quality that transcends merely the form. This is one of those for me. We can almost feel the bursting of growth in a new bloom. The lighting and composition emphasise this, concentrating attention on the dense (buds?) while the sheathing leaves gently surround them. (sorry I don't know any of the botanical terms)
Jennifer Hoel  Thanks for the kind comments. I'm clueless regarding the botanical terms too (pointly green bits and leafy things??).
