Most impressive mal, but I don't suppose you'd reveal your secrets. Is this a product of editing or simply shooting with a very long focal length, or...? :)

Mal Smart Hi Alex and thank you. It is Vaseline lightly applied to a filter in front of the lens. the following were the same technique also.

It's fun to experiment with, you never really know what the pic will turn out like and you can vary the effect the way that you smear the Vaseline on the filter.

Alex OBrien Dream like, moody and makes me want to grab my camera now and dunk it in the stuff, but surely that would ruin the filter slightly would it not? I presume you apply it to what the German's call a UV filter, which is just a cheap piece of glass that protects the lens... I think.
But very creative another odd thing to add to my camera bag. ;)

Mal Smart I use a cokin warm up filter, which is a cheap square piece of plastic that slots into a holder that is fitted to the lens thread. I only use it for this application - so I never clean it, just pop it back in the box when I'm done.

You Vaseline bastard! How you do that I still have to find out, I don't get to use that much of Vaseline in my life. ;-) This girl is thinking, I can tell. Dunnow why, but it feels that way.-----------------------(sorry, my cat was doing that, Ushi, the sushi cat). Anyhow, great moment in time Mahler, and I hope she gets through.

I saw this on your site and liked it very much then but even more now. It has both peaceful and chaotic feelings in it which really draws me in and makes me wonder which feeling is dominant. Very nicely done. :)

wonderful! very striking Mal - how did you do it without editing?

Hi, Mal. For me this is not a harmonic photo. It´s more of unrest and anxiety. Is that what you want to achieve?

Mal Smart you are very perceptive Bror. I wasn't sure that this feeling came across in the photo, very glad that you saw it. This girl was going through a very hard time when the photo was taken, she had some very tough life choices to make. I used the vaseline to try and create confusion in the image. many thanks. mal

Mal Smart you must be psychic Andrew, I was experimenting with cling film last week! I wasn't happy with the results, so I put it back on the sandwiches. This one was vaseline. cheers. mal
