Not sure if this work belongs to Onexposure - there's almost no photograph left in it.. But I do like it myself so I desided to give it a try ;)

I treasure this as a highly artful work. And although you write that this was one of your first experiments with Corel Painter it looks so perfectly executed like a masterwork.
I really like the possibilities of melting photography together with the art of painting and see this your picture as a very inspiring result.
Thanks a lot for sharing ........naturally the person in it also adds a lot to the charm of this beautiful picture :-)
Daria Endresen  Thank you very much, Helmut, you're way too kind :))
I love experimenting in Painter, I think that sometimes one can get rather interesting results mixing a photo and a painting together. I'm happy to hear that you liked this creation, thanks a lot both for commenting and for adding it to your faves :)

Daria, been away from Onexposure for awhile. You were one of the first profiles I checked when I got back and WOW girl, your work is even more impressive. Your self portrait work and "artwork" is just amazing. Keep up the great work, always a pleasure to see what your up to.
Daria Endresen  Oh, thank you so much, Scott! :) I've been wondering where you were, as I also have you on my interest list - glad you're back :) very pleasant and inspiring to recieve comments like yours - I have many projects going on right now, hope you will like the results :)

Hey Daria, you really do amazing things with yourself! Not only as a photographer but also as an illustrator. Is this last one your studies by any chance, if not, you should do so :-)
I should have been earlier with a good comment on your work, but lately I'm not around that much on OE. Let's say it was a little rest for me. But now I've just been to Switzerland, so I think I will post some of them, and hopefully they will accept :-)
ps: on this illustration of yours you look a bit like Joanna Newsom
cheers D
robin
Daria Endresen  Thanks for your kind words, Robin :) I'm not studying but I really hope to do so in the nearest future, as I'm very fond of photography and editing and I believe I'll enjoy it a lot having it as a job ;).. Looking forward to your new pictures from Switzerland :)

..I checked J. Newsom, can agree with you that we resemble each other a little :)
Robin Roels  Even this song is made for your work here > http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IYl0uLrXP7U&feature=related

You come alive with it

Daria Endresen  Thanks for the link, Robin :) never heard her before - she has a peculiar voice and style.. honestly can't really connect this song to my image, but I do look like her :)

Very cool, the body looks a little flat though. If you are looking for inspiration take a look at Marta Dahlig:

It's wonderful! I like the texture, it definitely gives it a painterly feel. Would you please share a bit about how it was done?
Daria Endresen  Thanks for the nice comment, Neil, really glad you liked it :) Most of the work was done in Corel Painter X, I used several Oil brushes for painting myself, and some Blender brushes for the background. The canvas texture was added in painter, the other one - which you can clearly see on the wall - I made in photoshop. I also adjusted contrast and added some sharpness.. and I guess that was it :)
Sure, it belongs here! It is wonderful. It is really a peice of art work. I love the texture and think you applied it wonderfully. Your gaze is Mona Lisa like and the compostion is very strong. The coloring perfect and the implied movement of hair a nice touch. The lighting of the face is dead on- If it was darker- you would lose your focal point - the face. Great job.
Daria Endresen  Thank you so much, Angela :) I am very very glad you think so :)

As others have said, you're quite brave to post this. The image is very beautiful. The composition, the shapes and colours, are wonderfully done. However, I must confess I voted against this image because I find the heavy canvas texture on the face disconcerting and rather disconnected from the beauty of the image overall. I keep wondering what it would be like if the face (and flowing into the neck) had a slightly softer, less heavy, touch of the canvas texture - I think because the face is so much lighter, it shows up more there than on the rest of the image, so diminishing it there might be worth trying.
Daria Endresen  Thanks a lot for the comment and critics, Ursula - I appreciate it very much, and I agree with you completely about the texture. The thing is that due to technical problems with my PC I lost several earlier versions without the texture, and I could do nothing with the final version as the canvas texture wasn't laid on a separate layer, plus sharpening and adding more contrast made it even rougher. I tried to remake everything from almost a scratch but I couldn't achieve the same result, so it was a choice between heavy-textured image with the right colouring, shades etc and the one without the texture but somehow much worse.. so I chose the first one :)
Ursula I Abresch  I'm very glad you posted it anyway - it's a beautiful image. Sometimes I feel like kicking computers though :) I think I also get a lot more demanding (or perfectionistic) of images that make an impact when I view them, it's a lot less easy to just pass them over. :)
Daria Endresen  Completely agree with you about computers :) mine has been giving me a lot of trouble lately, so I guess it's time to change it.. And again, I'm really happy that you liked the image and spent some time on commenting it - it means a lot to me :)

It is mesmerizing! What breathtaking things can be accomplished with a camera and technology these days! In the hands of someone with gifted talent that is :)
Daria Endresen  Thank you so much for a wonderful comment, Sandy :) I'm really flattered :).. This image was just an experiment and I'm happy to know that you liked the result of it as well :)

I looked at the thumb and thought to myself "this is really beautiful..." then I opened it up and saw it was one of yours, so I'm not surprised it was such a good piece! =) I like the sharp outlines and the two dimensional, graphic effect a lot. The hair really looks painted to the right. You have combined some elements in both 2d and 3d for a very interesting effect. I wonder what it would look like without the canvas texture.
Daria Endresen  Thanks a lot, Ralf - you're always there to support me and I am very grateful for that :).. No wonder that the hair looks painted because it it painted! :D I know I'm not good enough in that, but I'm learning to become better ;) And I think the absence of texture wouldn't harm the image at all :)

I really get into things like this...the heavy edit works well here! So moody and whimsical! Fabulous!
Daria Endresen  Thank you very much, Emily :) extremely pleased to know that I'm not the only one who likes it ;)

I love it. I guess it started out as a fotograph. Would like to know how you did this.
Daria Endresen  Thank you so much, Anna :) Yes, it actually was a plain photograph - I made a series of absolutely trivial portraits, just to practice with them in Corel Painter. But I really got involved with this one and since I liked it so much, I decided to reveal it on public :).. The image is mostly made in Painter X, I used several different brushes, mostly from Oil category, and then just added the paper texture. I finished it in photoshop, adding some shading and toning, sharpening it a bit, and also putting the texture on the wall.. that was it :).. I'm completely new to Corel but I should say it's an amazing program and it gives lots of different possibilities in editing :)

you have plaid a lot with technic, you said it..and we are in creative edit !! And I love the delicate result, even it's more like a painting, as a photo.
Daria Endresen  Thank you for your kind words, Flo :) I'm really glad you liked the results of my experimenting :)

I admire your bravery posting this one Daria, this will get a reaction. I have very mixed feelings about it. Firstly as an image, I like it a lot! It's nicely posed, lit and it is unmistakably you. But as you rightly point out there is little of the photo left. But I think that it has a right to stand in creative edit along side all heavily manipulated images, this one is purely down to taste. mal
Daria Endresen  Thanks a lot, Mal :) happy that you liked it :).. I discovered Corel Painter X a couple of weeks ago and this image is one of my first experiments, done both in photoshop and painter. As I've mentioned I am fully aware that it's not a photograph anymore, but I also was very curious to hear other people's thoughts on it, so I took the risk. And I can't tell you how glad I am that this picture got through screening and recieved mostly positive response :)
