The grain is a MUST here. It turned a somewhat "ordinary" scene into a moody and lovely image! The dof and comp are marvelous....
Ralf Stelander  Hey, thanks! I guess it could be somewhat ordinary, I had a similar shot rejected =) but I like the feeling here, a bit "blade runner". It could of course be one of those shots that means more to me since I was there... the grain is natural from T-Max 400 film, there's something special about analog b/w photo!

Some of these black and whites reallu work but some of them are surprisingly bland. I'm curious what about this image appealed to you and why so much detail is betrayed by a lack of postproduction and contrast.
Ralf Stelander  Hey, thanks for the input! Could you be a little more specific about which of the b&ws you like and which you don't? About this one, do you mean that it lacks detail? It's quite dark since it's a night shot and it has quite a lot of grain because it's t-max 400 film. I think it would have been a lot less appealing with a more perfect quality and exposure, like this I think it conveys a dark feeling of "cyberpunk", at least that's what's intended. Perhaps this photo is special to me just because I lived more close to that building for one year, but not special to someone else, I don't know. What do yout think?
