THE SCALE OF THE UNIVERSE
Posted 3 months ago
I got one interesting link to compare the size of a man and the Universe and acknowledged real picture about our place in the universe from macro to micro world. Just scroll your mouse. Enjoy.

Reminds me of the movie and book called "Powers of ten". Those made a huge impression on me some 25-30 years ago.

How can it be that the infinite space is limited? ;-)

Do we really know the universe is infinite, as we are only able to observe a limited part of it...

Posted 3 months ago
Amazing  that Human beings are almost in the middle of the scale and Nature seems to be so dimensionally symmetric !

Thanks for sharing Dragan - great!

I think it's cool that we can capture so much of this scale in human culture. We can both experience it (way to go photography!!!) and have opinions about it - very dramatic representation :-)

indeed it seems to be the acuallly most probably answer to some questions of astro- and quantum physics, that infinite space is not infinite. In former times mankind was sure, that the ocean they see too is infinite :-).
I read books about that the last months and am far to stupid to explain double split trial and Schroedingers cat sufficiently, but at the end of all that curvature of space and light speed is not most fastest speed is the recognitial, that our universe might be limited and is only one bubble between how much ever in a "bigger" universe and that again in a "larger" universe...

That's what I believed to know from childhood on ... and what can be viewed in the very last sequence of the movie "Men in black" :-)

Unbelievable. I cannot tell you how many flash players I have downloaded over the last six months....I lost count. But NO there is not even ONE in the Applications folder...good thing  I asked. I will go to download now..
Lets see if that works..thanks..

Back again..
Well when I went to Adobe..to get another one...I got a message explaining that Flash is automatically installed with Chrome browser...????
That is probably why I don't see it in the applications folder...
I also use Firefox..though..however it says that once you install manually ..Chrome will no longer update automatically.
I hate technology.
Don't really know what to do. But that is usually the case.

;-) You're on Mac, not? A Mac is automatically checking for updates on a weekly basis and will then ask you if you want to install these. So, no real need for manual installs.
But, perhaps you should delete Chrome from the Applications folder (drop it in the bin) and download a new version and install it. You could also try to install Chrome "over" the existing application (i.e. without removal first), but not 100% sure that would be a completely clean install.
Hope this helps,
Frédéric

Like Scarlet O'Hara..I just want to deal with this tomorrow...which means never. :)
What I did instead was to put on a coat - go onto the front porch and look at the stars..which were fading as the sun was rising into a gorgeous deep pink over the Blue Ridge Mountain....:) Then I went out into the back porch, and the sun was a pale pink spreading across the back property and across the sky.just above  the Allegheny Mountains..
So all in all - I think I had the better deal. :))

Ahh..I will try to deal with this another day if I find other things do not work..but generally all is working okay.
Thanks to all for you help.

That's great D.
Two small questions though....
Why are we here and what's the meaning of our existence?
No rush, but if you could answer by this evening that would be great. : )

Douglas Adams said when he was asked what the 42 means: 'The answer to this is very simple. It was a joke. It had to be a number, an ordinary, smallish number, and I chose that one. Binary representations, base thirteen, Tibetan monks are all complete nonsense. I sat at my desk, stared into the garden and thought '42 will do'. I typed it out. End of story.'

I don't believe a word of it.

I assumed that, as I got older, I would understand the world and the meaning of life better. I was wrong.
The more I ponder these issues the less I seem to understand.

I recently had some strange, but wonderful experiences which I can only describe as a true feeling of connectedness to everything. It's happened about 4 times now and I can only describe it as a vibrational experience. A feeling of energy vibrating through my body and connecting via the top of my head. Now, before you call for the men in the yellow van with the straight jackets, I'm a real black and white, reason ans evidence kind of guy, so I don't go in for a lot of the mystical stuff. I just stick with my own experience. Since then I've been looking around and I'm guessing that this experience has something to do with the pineal gland. I came across a fascinating documentary on youtube about Ayahuasca which possibly helps to explain some of these mysteries. I'm not into hallucinogens, so it's not something I'll be trying any time soon.

I've had several experiences that I can't explain, one of which was a realization that I was going to die. It just came into my mind one Christmas eve for about 5 minutes. It was real, I knew it was a certainty and I just accepted it without fear. Two days later my appendix burst and, without modern surgery, I would have indeed died. I only remembered the experience when recovering in hospital.

Any of you guys had such experiences or am I the only weirdo?

No I did not, but some experiences, that appeared as hints. May be they appear that way only retrospective, but I strongly believe that we by far do not understand anything "really" happening at all. I am convinced, that all what we see is produced by our consciousness. It coins the things to come and is connected to the "whatever" that surrounds and connects us all. Call it god, call it energy, call it information, call it matrix. If there is no absolute time, and no absolute room, all things happen probably at the same time? And if even matter exists of waves only, it's neither "hard" nor "there. So if our consciousness is connected to that "whatever" why shouldn't it be possible, that we connect from time to time on a more aware level? If evolution is right? Why do we have a brain, that only is used to 10%? If all only exists as nature makes it necessary, this other 90% must be of use! Why do all animals sleep? Such a disadvantage.... It must be important. What is consciousness? Where is it. Where comes it from. I do not doubt at all Bob, that you have been warned.

I haven't been that fortunate yet, although we talk for a few hours each week on skype.
He's certainly been instrumental in me seeing things in a different way, but not in the way I described.

It shuts down the pineal gland as do some anti-depressants such as prozac - allegedly.

I hope you have a reverse osmosis water filter. Nasty stuff.

I just had my six-month checkup on my pineal gland and hypothalamus...both are in terrific shape.  Doc says I have the pineal of a 30-year old and the hypothalamus of a teenager.

Now if I could just get my hippocampus up to par.

Thinking in and about over-dimensional or sub-dimensional worlds drives you either to the edge of madness or it relaxes you down as we realize we are an absurd Nothing. Sometimes the best solution to survive some dark nights. I don't care anymore (I did care before) if the universe is infinite or not or what is its physical nature but there is one thing, which is infinite for sure. And it is this question: WHY?

From the subatomic to dark energy, excellent visual of a 13.7 billion year old universe. And some still have their doubts.

This one is gorgeous...and you can see it in HD and it is free. :)

Well, Asia is the largest continent, objectively, and the USA point of view of the Earth is the most important one, subjectively ;-).

More seriously: European maps of the Earth are Europe centric and American maps are often Americas centric :-) . Meaning this site most likely was done in US.
