Chrome and 1x.com
Posted 3 months ago
Folks, got a trivial question really. I was using Firefox before and was able to save pictures from 1x.com on my HD (with a frame). I am now using Chrome, which I think is much better overall, but I cannot do the same thing anymore. I can only save the page when I right click on the picture, but not the picture itself.
I am sure that it is a simple thing that I do not know how to do...will appreciate guidance:-)

Right click on the thumbnail, not the picture and you can save it as a jpg.

That is, actually, good news if you cannot save them, inasmuch I trust your intentions. There would be less picture theft from 1X. And, by the way, Firefox 10 does not give you this possibility either. And even if someone knows how to bypass it, I'd be apprehensive if it is posted here, for everybody to see...

An interesting response and an aspect I did not consider. I have nowhere near the talent of the many fine photographers here, but aspire to eventually be good at photography. So, I do take copies of prints that I would like to try to recreate and have them on my phone for reference. Since they are small jpgs they are perfect for the phone but could never be turned into prints or even decent screen savers. No offense was intended.EK

Dear Alex,
When you try to download an image from the gallery, you'll indeed be saving the webpage. This is an intended behavior as it is to make any misuse more difficult. And it should work similar on FF, Chrome or any other browser.
And there are a lot of alternative ways you could "use" the image, by for instance using the options on the individual pages to share it on TumbleUpon, Twitter or FaceBook, add it to your favorites or save it into your own album. So, there are many different options for you to keep track of the images you like and for possibilities to share it with others. I am sure there is a way that would work for you, if not you could post a feature request.
Best regards,
Frédéric

Dear Alex,
I am in no way condoning the cause of those wanting to misuse the wonderful pictures exhibited here, but there is an easy and simple way to copy *any* picture: the Snipping Tool in Windows.
When I want to discuss a specific picture with a friend who has no access to the Internet, this method works well.
The really good thing about this is that it is then turned into a mere screenshot. It is just pixels captured from the screen, and *not* the uploaded image (jpg) itself. I normally also include the picture's name and that of the artist just below the picture for reference.
While I am convinced that your intentions are good, I am fully in agreement with the other posters above regarding copyright and ownership issues.
Kind regards,
Johan

I would never thought that it will go here:-)
What is wrong with people saving pictures from 1x.com on their hard drives? I have no problem with mine...1x.com is adding a frame to a picture and so people see who the author is.
I use it for personal inspirations...I think it is clear. HD size is not shared here, so no worry for people to print pictures from 1x.com and of others would want to steal, they will find a way.
So...in IE I can, in Firefox I can too (also 10th version)...only in Chrome I cannot.
regards
Alex

Nothing wrong with that but the browser's software and 1X's software cannot distinguish between such people and people who the post these images as their own. So using Favorites and Albums deems to be enough for the inspiration purposes. Keep in mind that inability of right clicking and saving is built in many photography related sites...

I appreciate it that you find images inspirational, and not to be difficult, but it is just simply not allowed to download the images here, nor to make a screenshot of the images. I would just like to invite you to read the FAQ.

And, BTW, for the author of a photo it is also nice to get to know you like a picture and find it inspirational. By adding it to an album or to your favorites, the author will get a notification. I am always happy of getting one of these, as it is a token of appreciation.
