In case I don't come out the other side....
Posted 2 years ago
G'Day All,

Not a great start to the day with serve abdominal pains. I reluctantly went to the hospital (like last time and then found out my ankle was broken). And after about 5,000,000 tests it turns out my appendix has burst.

So in about 20 mins from now it is coming out.

I have already secured copies of my ultra sound - which was done in the maternity ward - very funny with my little belly. NOne the less I have a nice shot of my bladder there.

Also the doc said he will snap some of my abdomen. I hope to finish post processing them in the next few days of my stay and upload them. Hope they make it through member screening.

Anyway - I am not coming back to the forum - this is just a - just in case thing. Never been under before. Not worried - but shit happens and I wouldn't want to be haunting anyone because I forgot to get some stuff off my chest.

Cheers,
RIchard.

PS American health care system is shite! I got pulled out of my CT scan with cables and fluid dripping out of me because finance want an insurance or payment guarantee. Great patient care.

Are you serious about the upload ?!

Take care.

Try not to worry too much. Statistics are on your side (the atheist's god). Had some surgeries myself and I can relate to your feelings. I sometimes get a similar feeling when flying but as I said, the numbers are on your side (unless you are very old and then you are f**ked :-) ).

Good luck,
Yakov

You're probably asleep by now and I trust that the surgery will be uncomplicated. But burst appendix...you must have been in agony. My wife went through a similar experience with me by her side all night and surgery the next day. You have my undiluted sympathy, Richard.

Well, the rural people in deep Portugal have a nice quote :

"Erva daninha a geada não mata" (Harmful grass the frost does not kill)

My doctor say same to me last weekend when i get "pig flu" H1N1 and now i´m ok again :)

So, you will live for many many years, don´t worry :))))))))

Sorry, but I find that very rude and uncalled for.

I know Richard much longer than you do :-)

(good luck Richard)

G'Day all,

Thanks for the wishes. Quick laptop use before I go back to a drug induced stupor.

How can such a small thing hurt so bloody much.

Cheers,
RF.

PS: Cameras were to be sent to the louvre to make up part of an entire exhibition on m life and art.

Richard,
Glad to see you are out of surgery and now on the recovery road. Enjoy the drugged feeling - go with it....and if it hurts too much...ask for a morphine drip. In two days..you will feel much better...really.
I hope it all goes smoothly from here.

Hey Richard.

Must have been the shock to your body of getting a colour shot on the front page ;^).

You'll be fine.

Mine burst at 5am on Christmas morning 2000. It took them until 7.30 pm to take me down to surgery. That's a long time to have a burst appendix inside you. I think I nearly died through their incompetence, but hey ho! I'm still here. The pain is incredible when it bursts. I remember my abdomen locking up solid for hours (good work out for a 6 pack). I had to be carried out of my house by the ambulance crew, which is very embarrassing when you are a paramedic yourself. Sadly, there were no extra benefits for being an employee of the health service at the time.

Hope you bounce back quickly.
Keep us posted.

Regards
Bob

G'DAy All,

Thanks again. I am stuck here until I can prove that my bowels still work. We all had a little celebration here today when I went pee pee all by myself for the first time - the foreigner even did it while standing up - quite the story on the 4th floor here. Hoping I can follow through with a poo poo tomorrow and make everyone double happiness :-s

Cheers,
RF.

Please don't stand while doing it...

Ah yes, I remember in my two surgeries, the main nightmare was to pee before the nurse decides to do it "manually" with a cateter. Gosh, finally made it by myself. Glad tohear everybody is cheering beside you. Only a few days left before shooting again. Get well !!

You will make it,the mortality of an appendectomy is nearly nil, though it may got some unwanted aftermath.
stick to the doctors advice and you will be fine, this medically speaking.as for the care you talked about,I think you have been treated like a VIP ,appendicitis is a clinical diagnosis, and for the last thirty years of my practising surgery , I haven't done other than a couple of X-rays,one blood ,and another urine test. and for my own son ,I have done only one X ray, beside the blood and the urine tests,
waiting for your posts in the front page rather than screening.
