lens line up
Posted 2 years ago
with the exception of not having a 35mm f2 right now (on the list to buy!) my lenses are as follows;
20mm f2.8D
[35mm f2 (not purchased yet)]
50mm f1.4D
85mm f1.8D
80-200mm f2.8.
(D700 body)

once i get the 35mm f2 is this a good general line up of lenses? i just switched to a new camera system and want to make sure i have everything i need. (went from olympus to nikon)

i shoot mainly live action events with no flash allowed or is discouraged such as; recitals, concerts, indoor/outdoor sports, weddings, dances.

You sound very uncertain Warren, I think you will find the best answers yourself once you start using them without confusing opinions here.

But if you after a little reassurance, then yes, I would have thought your camera and lens choice is excellent for the majority of photographic needs, including your intentions.

Happy and enjoyable shooting,,

I would say if you are not happy with such an exclusive selection of lenses and body you should stop photography ;)

for now i could only wish for this equipment :) i am sure you will do well... probably need a backup body if you do weddings.....

I plan on getting a d90 or equivalent next year unless I can afford another full frame body. I am more nervous than uncertain.

STOP FRETTING OVER THE GEAR, go out and shoot!! You have great stuff there, trust it and get busy. And yeah, if you've already spent this much, get the 35.

Hi Warren,
Don't let a little bit of rain put you off going out with your gear, just wrap it up nice and snug in a poly bag and go for it, just think of all those lovely rainy day images you're missing :-)
Nice selection of lenses you have there!! They should serve you very well for your subject matter.

thanks, someone told me the d700 is practically waterproof. i am not sure i want to test it to see how water resistant it is.

Little rain can't really harm a D700, at least I hope so...
I've been out with my fuji S5 (i.e. D200) many times with rain, snow, unprotected. And in case it is raining too much make sure you have at least a plastic bag with you to protect it. The very problem is to avoid too much water on the lens.

it handled rain very well today. spent about 4 hours shooting an ultimate frisbee tourney. no problems are all.
