Single Light Source, eg 580 EX II
Posted 2 years ago
Hello all,
I wanted to ask you what can be achieve with a single light source, eg Speedlite 580 EX II or similar, brand doesn't matter.
Are there are pictures on 1x.com that are done this way?
Who can share an experience?
Thank you very much!
Alex.

Thanks, Frank:-)

I would still encourage people who have achieved nice effects with Flash to share....in case you have a photo published it is even nicer, because we can see and learn:-)

Did anybody read this book - Hot Shoe Diaries by Joe McNally?
If yes, what is the feedback?

I don't know what a Speedlite 580 EX II is. If you are speaking about taking the light, whatever the source, off camera, you can do most anything you want to do. Here's one example of a single light photo from my portfolio:

Sorry, I really meant an external Flash....and what can be done with just this one light source or how can I learn to do everything I need and want with just this flash, if it is at all possible.

I do not always have an access to the studio and that is why I was wondering how limited I am going to be with this flash and without studio lights.

Hi Alex..this one is a shot with one external flash in total darkness..dont know if this is what you ment..but i use one single lightsource often and i like the gentle feeling it creates...there are a ton of possibilities with just one light photography,,,

I would say that this is the one source to go to if you want to learn how to master small flash photography

On the right side there is a link to "Lighting 101". Start there, read the all those articles and then go through "Lighting 102". There are tons of useful information there!

Hi Alex,

go to the menue "lighting 101"
Then look at the (white) pull down menue "lighting101 Archive" or" lighting 102 Archive"

There are lots of examples how to use flash with or without ambient light.

Hope this helps.

Not sure whether to smile or cry.....how many flashes you need to have to be able to photograph a model properly? 10?
Crazy:-)
