Windows 7 64 bit...
Posted 2 years ago
Just in case someone else is struggling.
I've set up a new computer with Win 7 64 bit pro. Not just feeding disks..
It stopped on installing. Worked after 6 or 7 times re-install, in safe mode. I searched the net, and found there was quite a few with the same problem.
The fix was, updating BIOS, updating software for motherboard, and updating drivers for the graphics card. Sounds easy enough?? Yes, if you can get the thing started..

I've been running the RC-1 for several months now on 2 PC's. Had a few little things in the initial install, but pretty solid since. I just ordered 2 copies of Home Premium 64bit. Trying to decide wither to just enter the key or do a clean install. Any thoughts??

Clyde -- You are going to want to do a clean install -- Although RC-1 is very good and not very buggy -- There has to be a good reason why Microsoft won't allow you to do an upgrade from RC-1 to Retail, for one thing there are newly updated drivers on the retail disk. Hope this helps.

Browse the forums.. The issue is not really the program. It is hardware related. New series of processors, and Graphics card not running on the microsoft driver.
It is up and running now, and it looks good.

It seems most are recommending a clean install. I have an OEM version and all new parts, saving some.

Yeah! Or a ready made PC, with OS installed.
That Mr. Jobs is extremely good at promotion. Making a solid group of fanatics around his products. Impressing! The PR part..

Absolutely! Works fantastic, but then I have 8 GB of ram in use. Vista 32bit found 3.2 of 4 GB, and used most of it running ..Vista..

Fially fully up and running with the proper monitor, all equipment installed except for Nikon Scan which don't want to run on Win 7 64. Tried to run it in XP mode with no success. Not really a problem, here are plenty of computers that can run the scanning until Nikon get the driver ready.

Nikon scan is working great in Win 7 for me with my Coolscan 4000. Would NOT work in Vista. I had to keep a XP install running just to scan. Not it's all working in one OS!!

You run 64 bit?

Posted 2 years ago
YES, 64 bit, RC1 Build 7100 at the moment. Have Home Premium 64 laying on my desk. Gonna do a clean install soon.

Actually the program runs, but it don't find the scanner. Any idea?

Yep Lars, forgot to say I had to do a bit of hacking:

http://www.earthboundlight.com/phototips/coolscan-vista-64.html

follow these instructions exactly and it WILL recognize the scanner!

Thanks a lot Clyde!
I'll have to try that. Do you run the Nikon Scan in XP mode, or do it run in win 64 mode?

Posted 2 years ago
It just runs after you do that hacking around in the link. I didn't change the compatibility mode. I installed the Vista version of Nikon Scan if I remember right. I'm at work now, will double check in the morning.

Excellent Clyde! It is scanning now. Works in win7 64 and in xp mode!

Why have not Nikon got around to fix this yet???

It works also in Win 7 mode with that fix. Nikon!!!!!!!!!!!
