Old Trick but works well...
Posted 2 years ago
I almost always have a camera with me. But what I have also started doing is hanging a plastic slide mount (empty of course) around my neck. It is a quick and easy way to quickly hold to you eye to frame and visualise a 50mm scene or shot without a camera or using a camera for whatever reason. It is a good way to train your minds eye whatever or wherever you are. Like in airport security! ;-)

An oldie - but it really does work. I highly suggest you all try.

Yes, and it has zoom as well. Just move the frame closer/further away...

Sounds like an essential fashion accessory for 2010......nice idea.

I thought the same thing.
I would like to have one in silver. :)

Yup. It'd be cool if a trend would start.... better and less offensive to those that served than the fake dog tags....

That would work. I also am trying to figure out how to make a 6 x 4.5 one... as 135mm 3x2 I am finding is not a nice aspect ratio at all....

Simple, made one you with scisors and hard paper, like old 6x4,5 slide paper mounts.

But not during "Holiday Season".

But yup - will get some cardboard or similar tomorrow. Need something that won't fall apart......actually now that my pelican strap for my mamiya has arrived. I think I'll sling the real deal around my neck and shoot that!

Great idea !! I'll use my frame mask from my Diana+ ! It's not the right format but it'll do ! Thx !

How about using your fingers? They are free, ready made, easily customizable to any format, difficult to forget or lose, and no one can question you for carrying them (even on airplanes). ;)

I tried that.... but I find that my eyes always focus on them. The flat and black surface of the mount works soooo much better..... then again using fingers will just expose you to ridicule as people believe that you believe you are the next David Lynch! ;-)

True: anything has its own drawbacks. :)

Yup. I used to like playing with matches under my blanket on the plane. Now that avenue of fun has been stripped away from me too due to fear of how others may stereotype me. :-(

Nice idea, I've heard about that few years ago. But depends on what you want to do and what/how you want to "train". Can be counterproductive as well IMO.

I was taught to use my fingers way back when, make a rectangle with them, works great, it's always available! It's a very handy trick.

How about Leica? Only 4 times the price, and much nicer...

Really? I haven't shot nearly as much as you, but it just becomes intuition about what fits in the frame.

You should wear it at all times like a square monocle. very stylish. . . sort of. . . or have one on a small stick and use it like a lorgnette. You could peer through it like a disapproving dowager duchess ;-)

I carry a slide mount in my wallet. I also have a panoramic visualiser made from black card with a long slot cut in it. They can both be really useful sometimes.

Hmm.. I'm simply carrying a camera with me..
Why waste time using all kinds of funny things visualizing while the situation disappears? Ok then, less work on pp if you don't take photos..
