I need a picture that I've not been able to take. High res underwater image. It will have to be from northern waters. With fish, bottom (with kelp), no divers, seals, whales.. It is going to be used for a stand on an exhibition, printed 3.2m long. Any suggestions?
I have nothing in my archive that will work, and at this time of the year no fish around at depths where there is light for it. Paid project!

In short: I was in Monterey, California about a month ago doing some underwater photography. It would not be sufficient at 3.2m I am afraid but the Monterey Aquarium ( http://www.montereybayaquarium.org/ )might be quite helpful if you find yourself in a bind for a quality photo. The aquarium likely has something decent, more importantly they can direct you to the marine biology research branch that would certainly have high quality photos.

Sorry, didn't mention, it has to be atlantic ocean as the sealife is very different in the pacific.


Done lots of searches already. And searched my thousands of images..

It seems like some photo to focus on getting. I never thought images of very common fish were so rare. From now on my focus will shift from sharks to cod..
